Despite a subpar Toledo season, this win propels the football program to greatness.

Coach Sam drives over from Cleveland and shows up for a pre-game or half-time speech to inspire the troops on to victory (sadly, no one knows who Coach Sam is, because he was NFL Coach of the Year in 1980, before any of the current players were ever born).

Take a look at who their one victory was against. This Rockets squad has enough talent to trample the typical I-AA opponent. But since I have a pattern of playing the optimist, I won't step out of character this week:

Liberty - 31
Toledo - 21

This would certain take much of the sting out out of our prior road trips.

Toledo's last six games against FCS teams:
McNeese State W, 41-7
Western Illinois W, 62-14
Liberty W, 49-3
Cal Poly W, 44-16
Weber State W, 51-0
Massachusetts W, 24-3

Just sayin' ...

Toledo -- 42
Liberty -- 17

...and that pains me.

While I agree completely with your premise, this is not the same Rockets team of the past few years. They are down significantly. I don't think any of us wo0uld be surprised by a similar result to that list. But if we can't be optimistic on Tuesday, when can we? 8)

I said we will lose...but in the defense of those who have said we will win, Toledo is the worst they have been in a while, so its kind of hard to do that kind of comparison...but i see your point

True. The only year during that run that they were under .500 was last year, when they finished 5-7. Still beat McNeese pretty handily, though.

That was a hurricane-ravaged Cowboys team that was just trying to get back together a year ago. So that doesn't hold much stock either IMHO. But I agree that teams that regularly attend bowls should be pounding I-AA competition. Let's just see how they fare this Saturday.

I am not one to make predictions on a game, mainly well... because I don't know enough about football to make an educated guess.

But let's face it, it is their HOMECOMING and LU won't have the power of their fans behind them. I suspect the outcome will be something similar to the Elon game or the St. Francis game in reverse although I would like to think that we fight hard and come from behind like we did with W&M, but this time the refs have eyes and an ounce of respect for LU!

Not saying Liberty has no chance, just saying that the history up at Toledo hasn't been kind to FCS teams.

The Sagarin ratings (by USA Today), which is as accurate a barometer of the games we win and lose as any measure I've seen, has Toledo at 124. Liberty is 196.

By comparison, Elon, who annihilated us, is 141. (W&M is 147, but still -- they did beat us).

IMHO, go to Toledo, cash the check, and start prepping for Chucky South.

I'm just hoping that Brock is on and that our offense will come out and strike early AND that our defense will come out and make a statement. We need to rush the pass and the secondary has got to step up.

I have 2 predictions in my head that are complete oposites. I'll call them homer knuckle and pesimistic knuckle.
I have made a decision to go with Homer knuckle.
LU 24
Toledo 21
I feel this low of a score is the only scinerio where we can possibly win. This means the Defense is ON and the offense is good (not perfect) with few giveaways.

That game they came back from being down in the 4th quarter are two luck plays (kickoff return or something like that) and won without scoring an offensive touchdown in the 4th quarter.

W. Michigain had two guys go over 100 yards rushing against them. They ran the ball almost 60 times. That should give us a good idea at a healthy gameplan. A lot of Jennings, ZT, and Wes.

You can insert anybody's name into that statement.

Terry Williams is a kid that was highly touted out of high school that was recovering from surgery. Saturday was the first time on the field for us. When I say he looked good, I'm talking about the way he ran, the way he cut (after knee surgery) and the way he hit holes hard.

If Terry Williams is healthy he needs to be on the field somewhere. He was a special athlete down in South Florida before the injury.
