Medic....this excerpt from the ESPN article on the phillies has me laughing...

No major league team failed to finish first after having at least a seven-game lead with 17 to play. The Phillies joined the 1934 Cardinals and 1938 Cubs as the only teams to overcome a seven-game deficit in the final month.

"We were pretty fortunate," general manager Pat Gillick said. "The Mets just hit a bad streak and we were able to take advantage."

The Phillies hadn't spent a day in first place until tying the Mets on Thursday night. They moved into sole possession of first Friday, but gave it right back with a loss on Saturday.

Before they took the field against the Nationals, the Phillies looked up at the out-of-town scoreboard and saw the Mets were trailing 7-0. And, you didn't have to be inside the ballpark to know that score.

When the Marlins scored their fourth run in a seven-run first inning, one tailgater leaped high in the air off the back of his flatbed pickup, landing feet-first on a plastic Mets helmet, crushing it into tiny pieces. His buddies circled around and mocked New York fans with a chant of "Jo-se, Jose, Jose, Jose, Jo-se, Jo-se!"

Jose Reyes isn't going to the playoffs, but Jimmy Rollins is on his way. Rollins took heat for boldly predicting last winter that the Phillies were the team to beat in the NL East.

While I'm at it, here are my predictions...

NLDS
Phillies over Rockies
Diamondbacks over Cubs

ALDS
Red Sox over Angels
Indians over Yankees

LCS
Phillies over Diamondbacks
Indians over Red Sox

World Series
Phillies over Indians

I'm a homer I know, but I'm ok with that! One thing is for sure though; the Rockies-Phillies NLDS is going to be fun to watch!

I'll take:

NLDS
Rockies over Phillies
Cubs over DBacks

ALDS
Sox over Angels
Yanks over Indians

LCS
Cubs over DBacks
Yanks over Sox

World Series
Cubs over Yanks

Who would think at the beginning of the year, we would be talking Cubs in the World Series?

poor hoffman...
2 for 6 with three strike outs, a couple in key situations. Jimmy Rollins is the MVP. This Phillies-Rockies series will prove that to everybody.
uh he scored the game winning run and had the game tying rbi....and it was not walk in the park sacfly either....

both have great cases...it being a day late might hurt his chances, both offenses flat out rake....going 15-1 to get to the playoffs, matt batting .367 with 12 hrs and 30 rbi's in sept is the reason they are in the post season

Pardon me if I'm a skeptic, but I do not believe Holliday actually touched homeplate but that's a different story. You can not leave out defense when factoring in who wins MVP. Did you see Holliday misplay that ball in the outfield? Not the first time. On the flip side you have Jimmy Rollins who started every single game this season and has played a superb shortstop, a tougher defensive position. And then on top of that Rollins did something only three players in baseball history had done before, by joining the ultra exclusive 20-20-20-20 club!

Holliday may win the MVP, but Rollins is more deserving of it, the way he carried the team on his back all year.

i have to agree, go to Mlb.com right now, they show every angle of the game winning play, and he never touches homeplate. Im not a sore Padres fan or anything, Im all cubs and mariners, but he very clearly does not touch the plate.

so who cares...its a run in the scorebook...its not like it was a non hussle mistake or a mistake period.......

and if you don't think that play has never happened to andrew jones or jim edmonds you are kidding yourself....

he made 3 errors all season...only lf'r with less errors? luis gonzalez mr no errors...

like i said, other than 20 triples hes hanley ramirez just 7.5 million dollars more expensive...

rollins will probably get it....because they are the same moron voters last year who gave it to howard who was decimated in every stat but homeruns by world champion albert pujols...

but arguing with a philly homer is pointless...

There...much better and more accurate.

You are absolutely 100% correct about Pujols last year.
