the boys hit this ice this weekend for their season opener at lahaye against D2 UMBC friday and saturday at 7:30 pm. the retrievers finished 12-5-1 last year in the (MACHA- mid-atlantic collegiate hockey association) and finished 2nd in the league. get out and support the guys!! below is the 07-08 roster.

Side note: I was just on the Christopher Newport website and noticed they played in the ACHA Div 3 Blue Ridge Conference along with ODU, W&M and VMI. Even though they are D3, what are the chances of LU coming to the 757 to play the likes of Old Dominion or William & Mary? It would be great to be able to go to a game.

Also, even though Lynchburg College is Division 3 in the ACHA, what about getting that crosstown rivalry going on the ice?

I don't know if you were there last night, but I was. That was just an ugly game all around. The officiating left much to be desired. I lost count on how many boarding penalties our men were assessed last night. Yet UMBC was getting away with plenty of obvious penalties. I was watching right along the side of the rink and watched one of their guys obviously hold one of our guys' sticks. If that's not a penalty, I don't know what is.

I came to realize that when it was a 3-0n-3 for the rest of the match, the fire in the belly was gone from both teams.

I was...I was there with a friend of mine from teh band and her roommate and we were along the top left section if you are looking from the entrance end of the arena toward the opposite end. It was EXTREMELY ugly last night

i love hockey. hate that i missed the game. i plan on going to some in the future, but i just hate that it cost 5 bucks to get in cause that adds up quick

yeah jdub...I have to pick and choose 2 or 3 games throughout the season..maybe a couple more...simply because it does cost money...

the cost alone makes me want them to move to the ncaa so we can get in for free....

It was ugly because the officiating left much to be desired.

I was talking with this one guy at ice level right by the glass. I told him it was a good thing that they don't serve alcohol at any venue on campus. Things would have really gotten out of hand at that point.

What was really incredible about that 5 on 3 is that it was a shortie for us. Those SHGs can be real back breakers on the opposing team. I've seen it happen too many times during NHL matches.
