Thompson is pro embryonic stem cell research, pro war, against Net Neutrality and hasn't made his position on gay marriages clear.

If he's the best hope for the GOP, then I hope the GOP has no chance.

I like Huckabee, but he probably has no chance. Newt may run, but he probably has no chance either. I would vote for both. Can't stand the big three: "Rudy McRomney." Would I throw my vote away though? Probably not. You shouldn't either unless you want socialized medicine.

I've heard threats like that before, and twice I decided not to vote third party. Look what I got instead. Humongous overbearing government, an unnecessary war and almost zero progress on moral issues in this country. (Though I now no longer believe such things can be changed through government.) Six years of Republican controlled Executive and Legislative branches have resulted in things worse than I could have ever imagined Algore was capable of.

If this country ends up with socialized medicine, it is the GOP's fault, not mine. I won't be swindled by the Republicans anymore.

Sadly, not even the "lesser of two evils" arguement works here. There isn't even one candidate whom has declared who I would even consider voting for. Unless Newt comes in and saves the day for me, I'm voting for SuperJon.

Reading all the postings concerning our next presidential candidate, it seems to me that LU Alum

1) Must live in a bubble thinking that only our opinion has merit whn it comes to the political arenas of life

2) Are dillusional....

3) Don't realize that this nation is long overdue for a female president - how biggoted of us to think that only a man can lead this nation....let's hear it for women leaders

4) That having a Democratic in office would be something horrible - how brainwashed LU folks are

5) When will ministers of the Gospel preach the Gospel and allow Mature Christians to decide in their own hearts whom the best candidate for polical office(s) will be. Seperation - of Church and State should NOT be a grey area.

Good luck with all of that.

Yeah, I totally agree. I just wish LU was more like the public universities of America that stay out of politics in the classroom. They would never preach that having a republican in office is something horrible. Thank god these public institutions are free from "brainwashing".

Another GREAT point! Who cares what she believes, we need a women in power NOW! I remember in Liberty's "Brainwashing 101" (a required class for all freshman and transfer students) the #1 criteria for choosing a political candidate was that it MUST be a man. Even if this man has the principles and values of Hitler, he must be chosen before any women. I'm so glad that I have dirtied my mind back up after so many years of brainwashing. Stupid, stupid LU folks!

Wait a minute....didn't we already have a female president?? I swear Jimmy Carter was president in the sometime in the 70's? I'll go look it up to make sure.

His post seems to have set off some sort of trigger in my brain. I just automatically discount what he said. It's the strangest thing. I've had this reaction ever since my Freshman year at LU. I'll never forget when it started because I was at Freshman orientation and I just blacked out. When I woke up a week later I immediately ran through the streets of Lynchburg stealing Al Gore signs against my will. Ahh college. Crazy times.

I am voting Ron Paul on every ballot I ever cast, regardless of what the ballot is actually for.

I am that brainwashed by his awesomeness.

I won't say that I won't ever vote for a democrat, but I would not vote for any of the current crop. Support for abortion is an automatic disqualifier for me. So, out are all of the Democrats and all of the Republicans that are wishy washy on the topic (Giuliani, Romney, Paul and maybe even Fred Thompson).

That narrows the field for me a lot. I won't vote for McCain because I think he is too far to the left for me.

In the primary, I will be casting my vote for Mike Huckabee.

If by some slim, minuscule chance he doesn't get the republican nomination, I will probably be voting 3rd party as I did in 2000.

Yea, because what this country needs is a preacher for a president.

per Art's wishes, I will "say how I feel from the heart".

1) Must live in a bubble thinking that only our opinion has merit whn it comes to the political arenas of life
It's true. I wouldn't have the opinion if I didn't think it was right.

2) Are dillusional....
no, I'm quite sane.
3) Don't realize that this nation is long overdue for a female president - how biggoted of us to think that only a man can lead this nation....let's hear it for women leaders
How are we overdue for a female president? If the right person for the job was female, I would have no problem with that. But it sounds like you'll be voting for her just because she's female. How is that not biggoted?
4) That having a Democratic in office would be something horrible - how brainwashed LU folks are
We are not brainwashed. A democrat in office probably wouldn't be good. But it would be horrible combined with a Dem house and senate. Most of the party's platform would be terrible if left unchecked.
5) When will ministers of the Gospel preach the Gospel and allow Mature Christians to decide in their own hearts whom the best candidate for polical office(s) will be. Seperation - of Church and State should NOT be a grey area.
It is a grey area becuase it's never specifically mentioned in the constitution. Yeah yeah, Danbury Baptists and all. When you leave it to interpretation, then obviously it's not black and white.

Ummm...the guy also happened to have been a state governor for 10 years. Being a governor seems to be a decent qualification to be president. At least it was for George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and many others. Hopefully, people will look a little deeper at his qualifications and ideas than just, "oh, he's a preacher".

aspiano, stop PMing me and bring your thoughts here. I think everybody else would be interested in them.

I want to know where you stand on, healthcare, taxation, abortion (I don't think this has much bearing on politics, but I'm just curious), capitalism, military, etc.

I got an email from him too, but instead of reading it, I replied inviting him to share his thoughts on the board. I hope he comes to clarify what he said because I too would love to know why he thinks the way he does. He obviously believes many of us are brainwashed idiots, so I wonder how he obtained his higher level of being. If he is right, I want to know how he got there.

edit... I have conversed with him through email and he seems to be a really nice guy. He is an LU graduate in 1980, and I encouraged him to discuss his opinions more on this message board. My sarcasm was probably a little too harsh, and I apologize for it. Hopefully he will come back and discuss his original post with us.
