Disclaimer: This is not a "get Glennon to transfer" thread. I would like to see the current QB perform on gameday the way the reports during Spring and Summer Camp sold us on. From the reports, it would make for some exciting LU football (from the offensive side of the ball.) Just saw this on the news, thought I'd post it here for discussion.

Tech decides to go with Taylor at QB for Ohio U. game

In August, Virginia Tech quarterbacks coach Mike O'Cain said this year would be different for Sean Glennon.

Last year, the coaches weren't certain Glennon was the right guy to lead their team. At times, they considered replacing him with one of the backups. This year, O'Cain said during summer practice, it was "Sean Glennon, period."

A strong winter of workouts and noticeable improvements in poise and passing had given the junior a great grip on the gig. So much so that Tech moved its No. 2 quarterback, Ike Whitaker, to wide receiver during camp...

But Monday, just two games into this season and after 15 consecutive starts for the Hokies, Glennon officially lost his job.

Head coach Frank Beamer named true freshman Tyrod Taylor, a blue-chip recruit from Hampton High School, the new No. 1. He'll start his first college game Saturday against Ohio.

It was certainly a shock to Glennon, who is now left wondering what to do with the rest of his career...

Noone here would want Glennon anyway. Who wants a washed up Chokie. We're all set here at QB for a whole. I hope he goes to Marshall or somewhere.

It was only a matter of time. Glennon is an average QB. VA Tech's best offense has come with a dual-threat at the helm. If Tyrod shows he can get outside the box and run with the football at this level, it opens up a whole new world for Brandon Ore.

though im no hokie fan, im gonna stand up for the guy. as TD said it was a matter of time since taylor committed, but to give glennon all the training camp awards and giving him assurances that he was the man and then get the boot after losing to the #2 team in the country?? hokie fans thought they had a chance to win but in reality they had no chance of winning that game. if taylor started would the hokies have won?? no way. would glennon rack up numbers on ohio u this saturday? you betcha. W&M the following week?? yes indeed! so now taylor can pad his stats against ohio and W&M before he gets another test. i just question beamer's decision. VT's o-line is questionable on the ends so is it all his fault?? no way IMO. glennon is a good kid who i think got a raw deal.

True, Smoothie. I think, though, that Beamer did cite the O-line problems specifically as the reason for the QB switch. Taylor is much more mobile than Glennon and has a better chance of staying alive back there. Glennon is absolutely getting a raw deal but I don't know that Beamer the Coach is more responsible for that than Beamer the Guy Who Can't Recruit An Offensive Line.

good points RTF. indeed taylor is more mobile and with the o-lines woes, he probably fits the scheme better. if im a drop back style high school passer im marking VT off my list of teams.

i knew from the get go that tech was going to be mashed in death valley. its SEC football. it is one of the strongest football conferences in the country.

Glennon is just an average quarterback. The Hokies offense has always been taylor-made (no pun intended) for guys who can pass on the move. During the infamous Vick days, the offense was simplified giving the QB two routes to choose from--if they were both covered, they were on the move. That's the offense. Tech was built on strong defense and a mobile passing game. Does it work? Somewhat--teams like LSU are always going to give Tech problems because they have superior athletes.

The only time I've ever seen Tech's offense run well against a top-tier team is against FSU in the National Championship game a few years back...but credit that to mostly Michael Vick playing one of the most unbelievable football games I've ever seen.

Tyrod was destined to play this year and it's better now than watching Glennon throw ducks everywhere. Tech has a very weak schedule coming up, let Tyrod take his lumps against some of the weaker teams like Ohio and W&M (who, as we know, have a terrible run defense). Right move, bad way of handling it.
