Some parts of your statement are kind of misleading, and some are debatable. First, Safari on the iPhone /iPod touch doesn't support Java, but it does support JavaScript, which is much more important to Internet browsing. Full on Java-applications in a web browser just aren't where it's at anymore.

Second, while there are only 16GB of storage on the iPod touch, it's in flash memory and not a hard drive. That means it's faster, far more reliable and best of all, a lot smaller than any hard disk-based device. Smaller = Better for most people when it comes to portable devices. For example, your Archos 605 weighs 1.1 lbs and is 5"x 3"x1". (That's HxWxD.) By comparison, the iPod touch only weighs 0.2625 lbs and is only 4.3"x2.4"x0.31". I know which one I'd be more comfortable carrying.

I'm a big proponent of the "use whatever works best for you" philosophy, but if you're going to make comparisons, bring it unbiased. It's not like the iPod touch has no advantages.
it also lacks quicktime support, which I have no idea why it lacks that support since quicktime is an apple multimedia application.

4.8'' x 3.2'' x 0.75'' (For 80/160GB* models) are the CORRECT measurements according to the archos website and it only weighs 260 grams, which is .57 lbs. not 1.1 lbs.

if you are going to round, don't round up on the one you aren't supporting to make it sound bigger than it is, but if you're going to make comparisons, bring the right numbers and bring it unbiased :P

No, no. shuckcb04 is right. I looked it up on Amazon.com, since that's where he mentioned and apparently Amazon's product dimensions are for the box and not the product. I should have looked closer.

So, his numbers are right, mine are not. Even so, it's still bigger and heavier than the iPod touch.

As for where you get that the iPod touch doesn't support Quicktime, I have no idea. If it wasn't Quicktime compatible it wouldn't be able to play TV shows and movies downloaded from the iTunes Music Store.

I read on several reviews that the safari browser on the iPhone doesn't support quicktime, so maybe it's just the browser that doesnt support it or all these reviews are wrong? i hate quicktime anyways, such an inferior media player compared tow indows media player, itunes, winamp, etc.

That's false as well. The iPhone also plays movies and tv shows purchased from the iTMS as well as any videos you create yourself. There's even an "Export to iPhone/iPod" option in Quicktime Pro.
