Found this in today's Asheville paper. I particularly like the talk about the stadium capacity and their plans.

ASU is staying put for now
Mountaineers don’t have immediate plan for moving up to I-A

Asheville – Even before Appalachian State’s shocking upset of No. 5 Michigan on Saturday, there were fans and alumni of the program that believed the Mountaineers should make the move up to Division I.

They realize they're a I-AA school and that, as good as they are, there's no fit in I-A for them.

Nothing wrong with being the best you can be in I-AA...and be the "gold standard." It has worked for years for Montana and other schools...and I wonder if Middle Tennessee ever regrets taking the plunge to I-A.

The thing I love about I-AA football: even if App lost on Saturday, they would've had a chance at the national championship. Michigan no longer even has a chance.

you're preaching to the choir. I despise I-A football and the retarded BCS, but I'm still one of those "let's jump up" guys.

Can you imagine 1A schools trying to get to Boone? Not an easy task, and would probably seriously hinder their home schedule. I am also in the be the best at 1AA camp.

You can take I-A and do things with it that I can't say on this board.

Seriously though, your line of thinking is like saying the AA state high school champion wasn't the real champion in the state because they weren't AAA.

and you would be ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

Biggest wins.

that's why the best minor league baseball team out there is not equated with the winner of the World Series, and why the Busch Series points champion is not regarded as highly as the Nextel Cup Champion.

I win again.

I am the greatest.

I know everything.

Oh, I'm gonna be a Liberty kid and reference something from convo (I watched it on TV the other night just to hear Jonathan because I'd never heard him before):

He said that too often we get caught up in wanting to change the world and wanting to effect millions that we forget who we are right now and the more realistic things we can do right now.

Uh huh. Suck on that.

Regardless of everyone's opinion, Jerry had a vision for the football program to compete at the highest level. In due time, it will reach those heights. Today, we focus on being the best in the place where we are (I-AA). That does not mean that we take our eyes off the vision (premier program in I-A) or stop planning for it.

Dude, me and Medic were just going over the top a bit because, well, we can. I was laughing the entire time. Everyone on here knows everyone's stance on stuff like this already, we were just having fun with it.

FBS is to FCS, as feeding orphans is to killing dogs.

let's put it into the correct format....jerry's dream was for the school to make money off football, like ND and BYU.....come on, pay attention.

After today, objects in mirror are not closer than they appear.

Realistically, in order to be successful at the FBS level and attract the volume and depth of talent that an FBS football team requires, I'll posit the unpopular notion that some of the more draconian elements of student life on the mountain may have to be reevaluated for their usefulness versus net impact on recruiting (and I'm not talking about the immorality or liquor clauses.) There, I said it. 8) :popcorn
