Go no farther then Doug's inability to rebound and defend at this level. Once again the cause of our university is hurt by non-experienced over opinionated wannabe's. it takes
real commitment to improve at this level not just because your God-given gifts dominate the weak talent you compete against in low level christian high school leagues.

Doug's best game of his career came against Central Park Christian Academy....that year they featured James Lang. A McDonald's All-American....Laurinburg institute....and in 2003 when Doug graduated they had 9 division I prospects...The conference Doug's team was in was weak, but they played 40 games a season and 12 were conference...I do agree Doug should want to develop, but you have to have someone pushing you. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT YOU POSTED AS A GUEST...WANNABE

Leo didn't improve???? correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he only averaged 2 points his Jr year (after I'm sure he left a real coach that could improve his players  ) and he averaged double digits his SR year with a few 25 point games and a few BS Player of the week honors? These are all things nobody expected out of Leo yet they just happened, I guess out of no where.....I'll take those gains, you show me a business opportunity where I can make those gains in 1 year and I'll take it every time....there are more where that came from but you just happened to mention Leo....Doug is a buddy of mine but bottom line is he didn't have the heart to play D1 ball, I'm sure he'll tell you that, it's a lot of work and isn't for everyone...man it scares me that you may be in Paul's ear....PLEASE I'm begging you to take me up on my offer to get to talk to some players b/c your info couldn't be more wrong

Also you wanted to mention about Doug going to the Dominican to play and so did LB but the guy who sent him over there (I'm sure you know his name) is one of Doug's biggest critics and would always stress to Doug what his game was lacking

And dude, your mentioning HS games...please don't do that, That's like saying LB was always one of the top scorers in the nation yet he didn't cut it out with the Heat so Coach Riley must not know his stuff....people develop at different times and Doug was prob. WAY advanced for his age, yet nobody knows how much they'll grow, improve, etc over the next 5-10 years (for college and pro).....but please don't use HS b/c I played with guys who went pro and would out perform them yet I'm right where I belong, on my sofa talking to you guys!

Look, all I want is for Paul to go where he feels is right....Doug is a buddy of mine as well. you must remember that Leo had multiple injuries his junior year, and rarely played. I feel with more time he would have gotten better.

Here's my closing comments until something new develops in this thread.....

1. I honestly cant see how Paul would ever come here with the amount of negativity that surrounds him towards this school and that even goes as far as his coach's

2. Please do not blame the coach's at whatever school he ends up at if he doesnt progress like you think he should, and at the same time do not praise the coach's to much when he's better than you ever thought, b/c most of this depends on the kid

3. If you choose to not PM me then do yourself a favor and go to practice on Monday, and you'll see how hard they work and how intense it truly is even at this stage of the Pre-Season....and you'll see that ultimately if a player succeeds or fails at LU there isnt many places that blame can fall, and I'm sure Coach would extend that to anybody who wants to see what's going on first hand

This thread really has opened my eyes to some of the negative hear say that's out there and I know Coach D gets on this board from time to time and I hope he can get on here and put in his two cents and I'm sure he knows the practice time to allow you to see it first hand

If you watched Anthony at all this past year it wouldbe hard not to recognize that he went from a one-dimensional scorer to a terrific defender and improved his offensive game off-ball. Frankly the defensive improvement was stunning. But I guess I'm the only one who saw the progression.

I think if you take just about any program you can question the progression of the majority of programs ... even Duke & Carolina. But that's just my take.

JM,

Louvon played several years at LU. He was ineligible for 1 year. Big improvement after he sat out 1 year.

Leo...u can say "improved"...but he was our best player that year he came out of JUCO, but suffered an ankle injury which caused him to miss that year...his SR sure "improved"? no, i think he was just doing the same things before his injury.

Guest, I don't think the statement about Leo being our best player the year he came out of JUCO is accurate. He would have played behind Gabe regardless of if he got hurt or not.

I don't know if that is true JC. I know Leo was considered a big pick up and truthfully it would have been Dees who didn't play much because Leo would have been the power forward and Gabe the small forward had he not gotten hurt. He was their best athlete before the injury, even more athletic than Gabe. Leo improved because his health improved but he learned a lot about basketball too in his time at Liberty.

Dunton has and will get it done. Gonzaga didn't happen over night...it took YEARS. I watched the team practice this week and it was tremendous. Real effort. much improved talent and intense teaching/coaching. Alex Mclean and Dwight Brewington have alot to offer. Go Coach D we are with you and walk past the naysayers

Louvon sat out Dunton's first year and I believe the first semester of the 2004 season ( correct me if i'm wrong?) Louvon was cool and a decent player, but could have achieved more. The guy had the size of Charles Barkely and could have done alot more if he worked harder. Vincent Okatie is another players that really stepped up his senior year especially at the latter part of the season. I believe he transfeered to LU from SD State, so i'm not sure what he is like the previous years.

I just saw the basketball team chaplain walking around with two guys in the comp lab showing them around. I don't know who either were, but thought maybe one was Paul. One was probably 6-7 and the other about 6 ft even.

Bets of luck to Paul wherever he winds up. He seems to a be a great kid by all indications.

Well, that was certainly an abrupt ending. He must not have been too interested in the first place.

Paul transfered to Tallahassee Community College for this year, and is now considering coming to Liberty next fall where he will be a R-sophomore. Since the firing of RD, Paul has Liberty as a possible school. Eaker has already been informed and everything is starting to take place. However, Paul is being heavily recruited by Witchita State, and some others. Paul will be spending 2 weeks in Lynchburg with me and my wife; so, he will get a chance to come and see the school and meet the coach. Let's hope this works out for LU
