Please forgive me ahead of time for 2 things. 1) some may find my comments negative, Sorry! 2) I've been out of town for 2 days and may heve missed this in another thread.
So here goes. I'm pretty sure none of us expected the runs to be so hard to break free in the 1st half and Brock and the receivers to be so far out of sync. So the question is, WHY?
1st game simple bugs to be worked out?
Taking the opponet lightly?
Sign of real issues?

I Think it was just first game jitters, just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Even though I was not at the game I would say it is all of the above. I am sure that with Jenning and Pinigus not being there had something to do with it and it was rumored that Tusculum has a reputation for a tough to run on defense and a descent team (althought there loss to Charleston has me thinking otherwise). I fully expected us to get at least 250 yrds rushing and expected more contribution from others besides Zach but it just didn't happen for some reason. I also didn't think that we would be putting the ball up 27 times. It seemed like Zach either had a big gain or gets stuffed at the line, no consistency in the running or passing game. It seemed like when we got up 24-7 we were just content to "rest on it" figuring the defense wasn't going to let them back in the game. I can't complain too much about a convincing win but expected us to put them away early and rest the starters for the entire 2nd half. Maybe I expected too much. Then there is the issue of How good (or bad) is Tusculum. Not sure what to say about that one.

They packed 8 in the box most of the game. The reason not many others contributed it because Zach got the majority of the carries. It's not like they were getting carries and not performing.

Once we saw 8 in the box so much, we split out 4 wide and went to passing. That's what Coach Rocco said we'd do. If a team stops the run, we'll throw. If a team stops the pass, we'll run.

After talking to some of the guys, things were more of a "First game" situation than anything else.

Makes sense to me. At least we didn't fare the same way SF Austin, Chatt, and others went (Loosing to a div 2 schools). Not sure if Tusculum measures up to Tarlton State or Carson Newman or not, only time will tell. I think that Coach Rocco fixes these issues on offense and we will roll Shippensburg. I don't think that we will have a repeat of what happened 2 years ago.

Either way Brock was missing some open recievers badly and although this was the first game its not like over the summer he forgot how to throw a football. Im worried only because last year our offense stalled big time in the begining of the year, it cost us games and if we are going to be "great" instead of good we cant afford another performance like that.

That was my point. We are all talking great, and this was not great. Receivers and the QB can't be on different playbooks and be great. I hope it's first game bugs.

I agree with that. The biggest thing for me is that he missed on a very easy screen pass early on. I mean that is something they teach you in Varsity football

I'm also concerned with our receivers being put in the hospital because they're being put in positions where they're completely vulnerable in the middle. Throw it low!

Game speed comes a lot faster than practice speed. I think this week is where we have to see Brock come out and settle down a little. If he's still missing those wide open passes this week, than we'll have reason to really worry.

Reason to worry or reason to make a change?

I must say dox Ive been waiting for you to show up and throw in the towel on him :P

If Rocco feels someone else can do a better job thats the way it should go. But weve stood by Brock and at the end of last year he looked good. Now hes gotta step it up and really have 2 solid games in a row. No missed screens no missed open guys in the redzone.

Looking at it now Im sorta glad we have 2 DII squads because Id be veryvery worried going into this week about to face a quality opponent.

Hey, we need a spark at the QB position. If we really are going to move from being good to great, then a change may be inevitable.

It is too early in the season to think about a QB change. I think that Brock will do much better this week and will continue to get better because he has to if we are to beat quality opponents. We will see what happens in the next few weeks. It is kind of good to know that Brock played so poorly and we still had a convincing win. Brock didn't have to be at his best for us to win but I can see a reason for some concern after that kind of performance.

are you guys kiding me?? a QB change??? yes there were some things that need to get better as far as Brock goes, but he also made a few throws that weren't happening last year...he look better this past week then he did at this time last year...

:dontgetit :dontgetit :dontgetit

I guess after we are out of playoff contention and the pressure eases a bit, he'll have some much better passing performances and you can tell me that you told me so.

It's too early to call for Brock's head. Yes, he had a rough game, yes, he was inconsistent last year, but we don't have a chance to make the playoffs without him. You think Landis or Brown will be able to jump right in and be better than Brock was last week? I don't think so, maybe after 2 or 3 games and by then it would be too late. We have to ride Brock out this year. Until we have a ruined season i.e. 3 or more losses, Brock is our guy. If we do end up having 3 or more losses and Brock has played like he did last week all year, then I'd say put in Landis.

WE CANNOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS OR GO AT LEAST 9-2 WITHOUT BROCK.

I'd hate to think that Rocco doesn't have a back-up plan here.

Rocco knows our playoff hopes lie on Brock's left arm.

If we loose to William and Mary then we can think about that backup plan but until then......

If we don't have any QB's who can throw a few TD passes against a D-2 defense that was clearly focused on the run, then our season was over before it started, in terms of making a playoff run.

If we lose to William & Mary, our season will likely be over as far as the playoffs are concerned. That game is a must-win for LU.

I agree 100% with that unless we could upset Toledo.
