Part of this is because we have no Jumbotrom, but that stadium gets quiet enough to hear a pin drop in some if not most of the time-outs. If you go to UVA or Tech there is something going on in EVERY time-out. The need to build something into each one (a game, a presentation, a dance routine (oops), Cheer leaders and band, a chant between the sides lead by cheerleaders, anything). I just think if you want the Baptist side to get more into into it you need to keep them more into it. Otherwise it turns into a social visit thing.

We've tried to get the cheerleaders to help with an L-U chant across the stadium and they won't.

The band should be playing in those breaks but they're too busy getting water.

So I'm not by myself here. I think someone in the ADs office should get with the cheerleaders and band and make it Mandatory that they do something in every break in the action.

Our cheerleaders add absolutely nothing to the game. They are basically in front of the band, not the students. Anything in terms of chanting or yelling is coordinated by different groups of students.

At Alabama games they have a contest at the end of 1st quarter where one male and one female student get a chance to kick a field goal. At the last game of the season the winner gets free tuition or something like that. Girls kick from the 5yd line, guys from the 10yd line.

Also, every break in the action they are honoring someone for something...past football greats, current athletes in other sports who did something worth noting, donors to the school, etc. They walk them out from one end zone to the 20yd line they wave and everyone claps. It takes like 2 minutes but it is always something different and keeps folks interested.

You could honor folks for Big South athlete of the week, remember old sports alums who might be in attendance, etc..

They also have sports trivia questions. No one in particular is singled out to answer but it goes something like: "Who holds the LU record for most touchdowns in a game? A, B, or C?" Then give you a few seconds to talk amongst yourselves then they give the answer.

Anyway, UA clearly has more history than LU but they are where we want to go so why not start now?

The facts stuff would be great, because it would start to push down everyone's throat the history of Liberty athletics.

I work (for the last 9 or 10 years) the jumbo at UVA, and they do so much stuff to get the fans into it in Every (no matter how bog or small) break in the action. There is no dead air there.

You could even use 1 timeout a game to "teach" everyone the fight song.

maybe we should flood the AD with emails about the cheerleaders. I think they are a complete waste. I honestly don't even know they are there during the game, as they are no where near me. I can't hear them, I can't see them, so as far as i'm concerned they're not there. they should either get them to do something or cancel the program.
personally, i think it would be great if they would do what there name says and lead the cheering. i know me and jon and others around us had almost lost our voices by halftime, and this is mostly from trying to start cheers and chants b/c the cheerleaders weren't.
also, i still think we need to figure out a way to get a L-U chant from the baptist side to the student side. NC State does Wolf-Pack and it sounds great in carterfinley.
and i like the idea about doing something in the downtime also. maybe like... the band could actually play a song? just a thought

cancel the program....cheerleading is a waste at all college campuses in my opinion....

I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way...

the only reason they exist at other schools is for guys to look at them while drunk

Try hearing the TV director say over an over "Shoot some color shots to come back from break with" and have nothing to shoot buy SJ and you guys  .
I mean the Cheerleaders have their backs to us the entire game. When they did a pyrimid he wouldn't take my shot cause, well you know there backsides were towards us. Sparky is out where he can be seen maybe 2 minutes per game. The band rarely plays, and they don't look good in the tshirts. So we shot SJ and JDub and the flags in the wind. We got some great sunset shots though. What is Barbers e-mail address? I'll send him my thoughts.
I think Scar should dance or something. Or maybe I'll tell Barber that We should make SJ the official "Real" Cheerleader and give him a wireless mic to lead the chants.
By they way SJ and JDUB, It was disconcerting watching you 2 smear paint on eachother before the game  . Just joking.

Title IX doesn't matter if we don't offer cheerleading scholarships.

The problem is that the support (cheer and band) have to play catch-up and may not have been prepared for the LENGTHY TV time-outs. Once they figure it out...they'll...figure out what to do.

They've had all summer to know the timeouts would be longer.

Then again, we're talking about a group that can't get their full show on the field until the end of September.

Give them some sheet music and say Play! Shouldn't they be good enough to do that?

Get the flip folders and play music that way. That's what the good bands do.

Our band's good, they just need to get a halftime show longer than 7 minutes and play more than two songs.

Someone mentioned doing a week long thing at an HBCU. That's not needed. Just have them watch a game with a great traditional band since we don't play the HBCU style. I know I harp on App, but they're so good it's hard not to reference them. Their band is 275 people strong, they play a ton, they do different halftime shows every week, and they're just plain good. They even practice less than our band.

Jon,

Why don't we get some posters made, maybe 5 L's and 5 U's. Let's split up, 5 on each side (Baptist and Student) and make it happen. I know I can have some guys hold my seats and the seats of a few others while we do this, and once we get it started I don't think we'll have to do it each week. In other words, once people catch on, our job is done. Can you imagine 15K screaming L and U back and forth on third downs, during time outs, and at other crucial times? Wow...that alone would greatly enhance the atmosphere at the Bill.

If you want to work out logistics, let's do it. Hit me up via PM or Facebook and we'll take care of business.

Dallas, the problem is, the cheerleaders should be doing that, not us. We're the loudest, most dedicated fans. There's no reason we should have to go to the other side away from where we normally sit.

I love it. I mean the siren would go off for 3rd down and it would still be quiet except for a few.

A lot of the third down stuff was quiet in the 2nd half simply because the students aren't in "game-shape." We got their so early and had so much energy that by halftime, most of the students were dead and couldn't talk. That part will get better.
