Do we have a paid guard instructor on staff? LU definately needs one! They could teach dance classes...All you really need is someone with dance/colorguard experience that has a college degree.
'Sounds like a job for Prof. Linda Cooper. Does anybody have her on speed dial?

I've wondered about LU and the arts...friend or foe. Cooper has seemed to really build a quality Theatre Arts program, but the absence of a Fine Arts Degree in Dance (contemporary, ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance et al.) is interesting. (Especially, because we all know that probably at least 50%, if not more, of the females associated with LU as students or staff probably watched every episode of So You Think You Can Dance & Dancing with the Stars.)

I have wondered about it because one of the reasons my sister opted out of going to Liberty was the absence of a dance program where she could continue her dance while getting her degree. With a large percentage of the church crowd having their daughters (& some sons) in dance from when they are little, it's interesting that this area has not been addressed by the Fine Arts department. Perhaps the perceptions towards dancing from the Way over the years has had something to with it?

Although, that seems to be changing for the better according to this article from the champion: http://www.liberty.edu/academics/commun ... 9&CAID=127 Interesting trivia tidbit...I was not aware that Rashad's brother was assistant to the Chancellor...

But back to football, seems like you gotta go with school affiliated colors, even if it is just the t-shirt underneath. In my opinion, every decision associated with the sports teams (Logo, band, unis, traditions, et al) made now needs to be considered in the light of how it will play on the national scene since that is the stated goal. Barber seems to be doing a great job so far in such a short time. Sometimes it's hard to remember that he's only been here for a year and a half or so (I think that's right?) So the turnaround has been impressive thus far, but it will be nice to see more of the minor details ironed out that Barber has said he likes to zero in on (band, et al.)

What was everyone's favorite NON-football part of the game?

I loved the variety of food vendors that we had last night, but my 2 favorite parts were the bagpipes/flag raising and the bursts of flames after each touchdown.

I want to know where I was when all of these flamefans were at the tailgate reveiling their identities? I didn't meet one new person. I left before Auntie Anne got there but Medic told me she was looking for me. Great to see my boy Luconn show up and hang with us before and after the game. Sorry I couldn't sit with you guys but I hope Medic and Luconn enjoyed my season tickets! I am not sure but I will probably not be using them this season as I will be on the sidelines. What an exhausting job but you do get to hear a lot of good stuff. I liked how Rocco Jumped Wynton Jackson early in the game after a dropped ball and said, "is this what we can expect from you this year?" Wynton really responded. I don't like to bother the players too much but it seemed like Bolden is a really good kid. I know he is fast! So is Jackson. Brock seemed very confident to me all night even when things weren't going that well for him at times. That is a good sign to me. Noah Greenbaum looked good for the most part. The defense was sensational and Tusculum is not a bad team at all. They have won many "money games" coach DeBusk's 10 year tenure. They were 5 and 1 on the road last year and they do have a really good offense. We did well to shut it down. Vince Redd is my hero! Looking forward to seeing everyone next week! I want to see more pics of me at the tailgate next week though :P

Yes!

As long as the place isn't burning down, I'm all for as much real fire in the stadium as possible.

There weren't that many new people. LUconn, Rocketfan, and auntieann. Other than that, I don't really know of many new ones.

Check that, I know ludeal stopped by and said hey. I don't remember if there were any other new ones or not.

I had planned on stopping by, but our schedule got thrown off.

I REALLY like the flame throwers. I did have a quick vision of a gust of wind knocking one of them over and torching the inflatable tunnel. That would have been a lot of real fire!

The best part about the game (non-football) was the size of the crowd. Can you imagine what homecoming is going to be like? 17,000, 18,000,...?

Al Groh has made a tradition of doing that with the UVA student section prior to each home game. I bet that's where Rocco picked it up.

I can't find the thread that has the predictions but if I had the right perspective on Tusculum's O I would have been more accurate. As it stands I said 38-0 and 15000. Thatt was very close to dead on. Owwwww! I just dislocated my shoulder patting myself on my back :P

Wow, if all the attendence claims are true is it time to expand Williams Stadium? Great win for the Flames this weekend.

Uh, no. A packed out house has 700x more energy than a half empty stadium. We were over capacity but we were crowded. People were on the grass and all of that and seemed to be having a good time.

Good morning all.

great trip down to the mt - went fast.

monster tailgate- started w/ SMOOTHIE and me out there at 0730 w/ Mr Lloyd, setting up- a quick round of golf (GMTM cheats) and right back to tailgaiting by noon. Throw in the game itself and post-game festivities; we were there 'til 0030, it was a LOOOONG one. By far the longest I've ever tailgated. Made the 6 hr trip home the next AM fun.

great to see everyone again- thanx to SJ for hosting me in the Carone Mansion, and to SCAR and SMOOTHIE for being my escorts for the weekend- even though I wouldn't give it up to SCAR that night (maybe if you had bought me dinner first)

Great to see LUConn- we didn't even fight, or anything. He agreed with me- which means he's a genius. Also great to finally meet Auntie Anne, who is NOT to be confused with Mrs Butterworth.

My game analysis:

Offense: C- (Rushing game was adequate, esp off tackle. getting #3 back should help w/ the power up the middle. Passing game: oh good LORD was that awful. CAN WE PLEASE USE THE TIGHT END!!! :banghead )

Defense: B+ (D-line and LBs were stellar, Hursky may have led in tackles and really looked great but Redd is a man among boys and a real game-changer. No drop off from Manny at ALL. As far as the DB's- good hitting but we still play off the man a little much for me, like a soft cover-2 or something, I don't know. #24 was solid as usual )

Special Teams: B+ (Kicking game was a pleasant suprise- Noah and Zach K. looked very capable in their respective roles- Noah has plenty of leg and Kolegue avg'd about 38 yds/punt with little return. I'll accept that the blocked FG was a fluke- but was very disappointing to say the least. Kickoff returns must improve as well, as I'm sure they will.)

Coaching: A (after falling behind, I wondered if Danny would find a way to snap the guys out of their collective funk, and he did. very good adaptation of the game plan when things were'nt working- a big change from years gone by. Nice job of sitting loudmouth #26 after his stupidity cost us 6 pts- we will LOSE GAMES at this level because of him if that does not change. )

Crowd: A (14,925 as the students finally realize we have a FB team on campus. Great job by SID to promote this one- now to get the townies out to see D-I FB. May never happen- but at least the Baptist side was full anyway. Pre-game ceremonies were special- great job)

Band: C+ (disappointed with the effort. T-shirts were not good- and if you didn't look twice you barely knew they were over there. Not to be rude- but if you're not going to play, give the seats in that section to kids who are sitting in the grass. There needs to be some real improvement in the game-atmosphere; good size and sound when they DO play though)

Overall: B+ (what you'd expect from a home opener against a decent D II team)

In addition to my homie LUconn, was also good to see FLAFAN, Alumnus, Rocket, Mr. Connelly (Obiwan), Auntie Anne, NewFlame, OldFlame, FloridaBoi and someone else who I now forget

SCAR- you missed everyone while out getting "purty". The pancake makeup didn't help, BTW.
