SuperJon wrote:Isn't it the field crew's responsibility to do that stuff? They should be the ones packing up, leaving the band in the stands.

I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I was in them last night.
They were there too...part of it was the fact that some of the stuff had fallen over after we got it behind the field house so they were working on that. Im sure that the folks that don't play cymbals can work with the field crew (and the leader for the front percussion) to make sure everything gets packed up and there are cymbals in the stands for the fight song.

I took another look at that picture you mentioned though and that is actually a shot of the percussion leaving to warm up before halftime. Not long after that the rest of the band left to line up for halftime entry

At the time that picture was taken (which I believe was the 3rd quarter) the front percussion were all behind the fieldhouse packing up their gear so that they would be marching back with tbe band at the end of the game instead of being at the football stadium packing up once the game was over and keeping the uniform staff up all night. At least you had the battery and the horns in the stands right at the start so that oughta count for something
The picture was taken at the end of the 2nd quarter...the drumline was headed out of the stands to prepare for the halftime show. I should have mentioned that when I posted it.

I was VERY happy to see the band back in the stands for the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Someone must have talked to Dr. Kerr about it.

They did...I remember hearing Dr Kerr tell the band as I was heading down to help with packing the sideline equipment that they grab theur water and head right back to the stands to play some more.

What's the deal with the field? In this pic and on tv it looked real shiny and wet. Real distracting.

Jeremy kept saying the same thing that it looked real shiny. I don't really know the reason for that.

The field was dry. It is shiny like that because the blades of fake grass lay down in a certain direction and give it that look when the stadium lights hit it. It is kind of like the way a carpet has different looks depending on which way you push the fibers with your hand or a vacuum (for those of us who have to do house work on occasion).

Could that be fixed by riding over it with a lawn mower (with the blades up) to get the blades going a different direction?

I think the angle of the lights also factors into the equation for what it is worth.

I think it has more to do with the lights. Wake Forest, among other schools, has the same type of turf. But their's doesn't look like an icy field. I really think its a lighting issue, but, I don't know, it could be the types of cameras also. Bottom line, the field doesn't look right at night on TV.

It did look the same live as on TV. In fact it looked that way the night before at the LCA game. I think you are right about the lights. More lights at the end of the field would probably solve that look. Another item for Jeff Barber to put on his check list.

I know, I know!

UPLIGHTS!

and some pretty little potted plants. And maybe some throw cusions.

How 'bout a duvee' too, while we're at it? Maybe re-do the restrooms in mauve?

I asked one of the coaches about the way the field looked and got an interesting answer. He said that the field has to be "raked"before every game or it looks like it did. He told me that it was "raked" for the opener, but they raked it the wrong way so the blades were shiny side up. Look, I have no idea if he was pulling my leg on this one, but he kept telling me it was true. Has anyone heard this before? I tend to look at it as a lighting problem, but .............................

It did get raked towards the cams not away. I asked that night and was given the same answer.

I watched them rake it for a while when it was first intalled. It's like a lawnmower with a big spinning brush on the back and it kicks all of the rubber pellets all over the place.
