HA! I beat Sly to one. He is not listed on the rivals.com list for Liberty, but an article in the Virginian Pilot today suggested otherwise. Yes, I am a little biased here, but this kid can flat out throw the rock. His 40 time would have been a little better had he not skipped out on track to play baseball (I hear the track coach at that school is amazing!).

Great Bridge QB is aiming to prove doubters wrong

Great Bridge quarterback Casey Turner had trouble sleeping Tuesday night, the eve before the start of practice.
"I must have woken up four or five times," he said. "I just couldn't wait to get started."
Turner, first-team All-Tidewater last season, has a chance to become the most prolific passer in South Hampton Roads history.
But he has extra motivation this season. He feels he's not getting the respect he's due. Even though he threw for 2,780 yards and 24 TDs last season, many recruiting services don't rank him among the state's top college prospects.
"If (the recruiting Web sites) want to count me and my team out, then they'll just pay for it in the end," he said. "I think we have what it takes this season to get us over the hump."
Turner recently got offers from Ohio University and Liberty. He said he's expecting offers in the coming weeks from Purdue, Rutgers and North Carolina.

This is the kind of QB prospect that we'll have a shot at landing once we make the transition over to 1A.

Clearly, somebody thinks we've got a shot at landing this kind of prospect now.

Yeah...a while back. At 215 lbs, he didn't have much of a future in spikes, though. Laser rocket arm. Good head on his shoulders. (I do give him a hard time for looking like an overgrown leprechaun with his goofy beard.)

I'm not sure the rules at LU are going to be what he is looking for, but you never know.

Thanks for the format change on the OP, Sly. I am still a little weak in my html skills.

The publication lists a bunch of 1A's and then us. He can throw, he can run, he's smart, he's 6-4, and at least five 1A schools ranging from the Big Ten, Big East, ACC, and MAC are pursuing him. Sounds like he's headed to 1A at this point in the conversation.

Dont count LU out just yet. Coach Rocco and staff do a GREAT job recruiting--even better than some of the D1-A (excuse me, BCS) schools I've seen. I think what it will come down to for ANY QB recruit is whether or not they feel like they have a chance to get on the field. With 3.5 backup QBs on the roster (Zach Terrell being the .5), and 2 being Freshmen (1 redshirt, 1 true) and a Sophomore, that may be a concern for any player looking to come in. Besides Brock, we're pretty young at this position.

Alright guys, this may be a long-shot, but let's put on a show Saturday for Casey.
This past week we had a great week of practice and its going to show on Thursday night. This weeks practices should be even better we've been showing great intensity and togetherness. Yesterday we had a senior pool party and it was good for the team. Our parents got to know each other , a little better and the seniors really enjoyed themselves. It's great to have a fun day every once in awhile after a hard week of practice. On the other side of things recruiting has been going well. I visit Purdue Oct.2, Liberty Sept.1, and I visit Ohio the 3rd week in September. I'm still talking to UNC, Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Army, Tennessee. Ohio is the only offer I have as of now but Purdue and Liberty have both said they're close.

Hopefully, he will be impressed with our facilities and the coaching staff. Would be a good pickup if we could land him.

Man you're dumb. Your favorite player was recruited by a ton of I-As including Miami and he came to us. Yea, we can't recruit against these kids.

It isn't like we landed a recruit over VT this past season or anything.

No, Miami offered. He turned them down.

To say we can't land a kid of this stature is a slap in the face to our coaching staff. That's like saying startup Coastal Carolina couldn't land Jerome Simpson because ACC and Conf-USA (when they were good) schools were looking at him. They did, and look what happened.

Seriously, it's very difficult to argue with you because you're a reservoir of misinformation and you tend to make untenable comparisons that you perceive as coherent.

So, I'm gonna have to leave ya with a :dontgetit :dontgetit :dontgetit

Great Bridge defeated Deep Creek for the first time in 14 years last night behind Casey's strong first half performance. He finished with 268 yards passing. The tally would have been higher had they not gone to the running game in the second half to preserve the big win. By the way, if you are familliar with VA high school football or track, you know how big of an upset this was.
Turner and company appeared headed for a blowout, running up a 14-0 lead in the first half. A senior quarterback who climbed to third on the all-time South Hampton Roads passing list with 5,396 yards, Turner riddled the Hornets secondary for 234 yards in the first half.

Sorry Shuck, if you feel insulted in some way. I really can't recall a past exchange or incident between you and I that may have led to that. it's really not my intention to converse in such a manner, however, if a poster gets out of hand or goes after my throat, I may throw something out there that cuts a little deeper but also happens to be true. I see it more as having a little fun with a few out there who seem to take themselves a little too seriously on this board, rather than disrespect. If anything, I'm challenging asperse language that is directed toward me, and in all honesty, having a little fun with it.

If this is in regard to this post, then maybe some "fans" feel insulted by certain realities. For instance, there are many on this board who are under the illusion that we are bidding for prime players with major bowl division schools. At this level, it's the coaching staff's job to find diamonds in the rough, overlooked talent, or someone who has slipped through the cracks in some way. A player may have been evaluated by a big program, but that does not imply a bona fide offer. Players are not literally recieving offers from Miami, Florida State, and Liberty, and then decide to pick Liberty over the two big-time schools. 99% of the time, it doesn't happen. It did happen once though, Jon Stark back in the 90's could have played anywhere, but under special circumstances he chose LU.

It's not that we can't or won't land Turner. There is a possibility that we could land him, however, the other schools are going to have to lose interest. He's got real 1A interest on the table right now, if that should not fully materialize at some point, then I'd imagine that LU, along with JMU, W & M, ect. would enter the picture.

Well, I talked to Casey about his trip to LU last weekend today. He was REALLY impressed with the football program. He said that the FOC was the best facility he had seen and that the program is definetly headed in the right direction. That being said, he felt that the school was "too Baptist" for him, so he would be looking at other options. I told him I understood and that Liberty wasn't for everybody.

This put our recruiting situation into a very interesting perspective for me. I am going to go to his game tonight and watch him light up another team for a bunch of yards and TD's, and then realize that LU won't get him simply based on the school's belief system and standards. Don't get me wrong...we should have standards and I totally agree with them, it just makes me understand how difficult the coaches must have it trying to get talent to come to the Mountain. Not only do they have to get interest, but they have to find the kids that are sold on the school's policies.

Casey certainly has bigger and better options in front of him in Rutgers and Purdue. We'll have to wait and see how that plays out. If things don't work out with the other schools, he may decide to reconsider. McKay recently brought in three basketball recruits, all with non-Baptist backgrounds: Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Pentecostal. Our history may be Baptist, but out student body is diverse with regard to denominational affiliation.

Well, if he slips down to the 1AA level, he may have an opportunity to play in the CAA or the Southern Conference. But ya never know. I'll bet Chris Summers didn't envision that he'd end up in Lynchburg either. However, a coaching change in Louisville changed all that.

I'd imagine that Rocco will periodically peek his eye in the keyhole on this one. Trust me, it wouldn't be the first time somebody said that they would never attend here and four years later walked out with a degree in hand.

The last official statistic that I heard a couple of years ago was that 60% of our student body comes from Baptist backgrounds, which obviously means that 40% comes from other church denominations. Now, the non-Baptist numbers are probably even higher.
