They are throwing short passes nearly every down with the occasional draw. 2nd drive stalls at the UC 36 for TC after a big sack. Charleston had a big punt return called back due to a penalty. But Wynton has to be licking his chops.

The game starts at 1pm and it should give us an idea of how potent their new pass happy offense is under the offensive coordinator who led Division II's top passing attack a year ago at Missouri-Rolla.

A couple of late fumbles do in the Pioneers ...

Tusculum - 23
Charleston - 27

Final

I think things look VERY good for us in our opener ... although I know madmat will get on me about not overlooking any opponents. :D

That game would have been a nice road trip to scout out our opponents. If Tusculum is losing to the lowly University of Charleston, LU should have a field day with them next week at our place. If we don't win my at least 3 TDs, I'll be disappointed. Look for our benches to empty early, so that Coach Rocco can give our backups some playing time and real game experience.

Here's the report from the TC SIDs ...

CHARLESTON BEATS TUSCULUM 27-23 IN FOOTBALL OPENER

CHARLESTON, W.Va. --- Chris Rotella's fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown with 3:24 left in the game lifted Charleston to a 27-23 victory over visiting Tusculum.
This would probably be our only reason cause for concern ... they can chunk the ball around fairly well.
Tusculum's Corey Russell completed 31 of 53 passes for 322 yards and a touchdown. The Pioneers' Brandon Dixon caught a game-high nine passes for 151 yards. TC held a 447-303 total offense edge.

More on the Tusculum game from the Charleston newspaper: http://wvgazette.com/section/Sports/2007082528
Ever the religious man, University of Charleston coach Tony DeMeo admits to saying a few quick prayers Saturday afternoon as his team’s fortunes hung in the balance. Turns out he needed every one of them.

Defensive back Chris Rotella recovered a fumble in the end zone with 3:24 left in the game to give the Golden Eagles a harrowing 27-23 opening-game victory over Tusculum (Tenn.) in front of a crowd of 3,621 at UC Stadium on a 90-degree day.

Sly, I went to U of Charlestons Spring Practice and Clinic, and Coach DeMeo has a good program with talented kids in an innovative offense. The fact that he struggled to the end against TC and gave up 477 yds. of offense has me concerned. Couple that with an MIA on our offense and it being our 1st game and their 2nd, and I've got the pregame butterflies. I tell my players, if you don't respect your opponent, you'll get embarrassed. What is the name of one of the links on this forum?.....Any given Saturday?

You never disappoint.

I'll let the players & coaches worry about the Pioneers. I'' just go ahead and start counting my chickens right now and worry about the hatching later.

Sly, I think we illustrate the complimentary relationship between the promotion department and the coaching staff. I need to put down the headset more and come to the darkside and have some fun, at least in college football.

Please take it easy on the Pioneers, We want them to be good and healthy when they come down to Braly Stadium on th 8th. It's our only OOC of the year and we need to take out some frustration on them.

I think we need to get Mane Man and DrDoctor together to swap camera stories. Great shots.

BTW, I can't quite make out the graphic on the UNA helmets. What is that?

It's a Lion's head, kinda like Penn State but purple. BTW, I've always been a Liberty fan, though I went to UVA and graduated from UNA. I went to boarding school outside Charlottesville back in the late 80's. Really, good luck against the Pio's, but leave us something to naw on.

After reading about Tusculum's turnoveritus last week and hearing Coach Rocco talk about Vince and othere chomping at the bit to knock some balls away, I think it might be a long night for the Pioneers this Sat.

Plus, next week ill be at the Notre Dame @ Penn State game, so i dont get to go to a football game for 5 weeks probably. Someone take pictures of the pre game festivities por favor.

ummmm....this weekend should've been booked by you months ago...as for going to Penn State/Notre Dame...I don't think a member of this forum should go to any other school to go see a game when LU is playing AT HOME!!!!

it was booked by me months ago. I kind of have no choice though because her mom called all of her siblings home this weekend. As for the Notre Dame game, her Uncle is the associate head coach there so we got free tickets. Plus, id rather watch that game than Liberty destroy shippensburg.
