Does anyone know what they're actually doing with all the construction over there? I have yet to get a straight answer. The only thing I know is they've taken half of the parking lot up. If it's for a decent reason, I'm ok with the parking. If it's for something stupid, they need to hurry up so that students and staff can actually have a place to park.

I agree with SJ 100% on this issue...parking is extremely problematic as it is without more parking spaces being taken up.

As long as David's Place lot stays 50% empty there IS NO PARKING PROBLEM (perhaps a convenient parking problem...but that's it).

No, see, there is. It's less dangerous to play kickball on 460 than it is to walk across the hill coming from David's Place.

Also, the bus does not run by David's Place. There's not a bus stop there.

Lastly, one of the better things to do was park at North and then take a bus to main campus. However, they've changed parking this year where commuters can either park on Main or at North, but not both.

if the david's place pit was hazerdous for my somewhat low car, and tires...then I honestly wouldn't have a problem parking over there....there are huge holes everywhere....its terrible, and if its not going to be paved they could at least grate it down or something

It's going to be paved sometime. The problem for me isn't parking there. If there was a safe, convenient way to get to class from there, I'd be all for parking there.

Easiest way to solve this: ticket the crap out of every single person who parks in a spot that they're not supposed to, get the construction crap cleaned up, and then add a bus stop to David's Place.

And speaking of busses, I'm hearing its quicker to walk between Main/East/North than it is to take the bus. HMO...its falling apart without you.

It is much quicker to walk to north...because there are so many people always waiting for the buses...i have yet to ride a bus this semester

EDIT: I wouldn't have a problem parking in the pit at all,but some of us just don't have SUV's....that is it....

another problem is that good 80% of freshmen this year have cars and they all are still driving to class and parking in the wrong spots. Even when they park at the dorms they park in the wrong spots.

That's why I said ticket like crazy until they learn where they can and can't park.

I know not everyone here is currently active at LU in some way, so let me just note that in convocation yesterday the first improvement mentioned by the Chancellor on the list of things they're working on was parking. It's not going to happen overnight.

In the short term, I think SJ is right. The bus should probably stop at all large parking areas and LUPD might want to write a few more tickets. I've seen commuters parked in silver diamond spots this week. That ain't right.

I heard that a glass atrium is being built to add 400 more seats to the dining hall.

What about the Green Clover or Purple Horseshoe spots?

Those are visitor parking for when Soulforce is over here protesting. No one else wants those spots.

well its going to be hard for them to ticket because when i went to get my sticker they werent even asking if your a freshmen or not. If they are seriously letting freshmen park wherever they feel im going to be ticked.

That parking lot was well over 50% full today. I had to drop a guy off there and it was packed.

This may be the first time I've heard the complaint that LU Police are not giving out enough parking tickets...

(Yes I know there are progressively more cars on campus... but when I left in 2001 that was one of the biggest gripes students had... LUPD giving out ridiculous amounts of tickets)

I'm sure you guys on campus are right that it needs to be done... it's just funny to hear :)

I have never once complained about LUPD and their parking tickets because I only park in spaces that I'm allowed to. The kids that complain are the ones on-campus who like to drive to class or the commuters who like to park in staff spots. Follow the rules and things aren't a problem.

i tried riding a bus from demoss to north, and was 10 minutes late to class. i tried again today and got there early. I think the key is to either get on the first bus or start walking

On tuesday for my class up there I saw at least a hundred people standing acroos the street from Demoss and so I decided to walk and was right on time for class...today there were like 10 people over there so I took to the bus and was 10 minutes early...so I am just going to kind of check out the bus stop across from demoss every tuesday/thrusday and make my decision then....

I still don't see the problem...get to school about 7 AM...never have a problem getting to class or finding a parking place. Now my boss...on the other hand...who gets in around 830...that's another story.

Yea, I get there at 7:20, and have no problem. However, I don't have a nice office to go to between classes. A lot of days I need to leave and come back to school. Last semester, and the semester before, and actually the one before that, I could leave, get errands done, then come back, get to school 20-30 minutes before class, and find a spot and not have to worry about getting to class late. I had a two hour break today that I could've gotten a lot of things done, but I couldn't leave campus because there's no chance I could've found parking before my next class. Yesterday I spent 55 minutes trying to park. I left at 9:45 to go to the bank and do some other things, got back to campus at 10:25, and drove around until 11:20 looking for a spot, and then was 3-4 minutes late for class. I've talked to professors and they say it's horrible right now, especially by the Rot.

For you commuters, I have a suggestion you will not like but it would really help. Find an off campus friend or 2 and Carpool.
Just an observation and something we used to do back in the day. :oldhag
But remember on most if not all college campuses some degree of walking is inevitable.
