Just got a text letting me know that tonight's practice is a scrimmage. They're simulating everything from the coin toss to singing the fight song by the band. It's a nice night, the storms have passed, so if you haven't had a chance to see the team, tonight would be a great chance.

why are they going all out for a practice scrimmage?

its not full contact or anything if that is what you mean

its about as "all out" as a scrimmage can get...you don't want to hurt anybody

I stopped by for a few minutes...then had to come back to my hot office

Our practices are "full speed thud" meaning everything is full speed every play, we hit, but we don't tackle to the ground. It's a very pro-like way to practice and reduces injuries. It was basically a game simulation. Pretty decent ground too.

SJ did you make it out to the scrimmage? If so, can you give us a recap?

I was there. As for a recap, can't really help as much there. I was watching, but mainly talking and things like that. Brock made some very good throws over the middle. Wynton had a good catch or two. Greiser had an interception in the end zone. Vince can tackle people with one arm. Wynton on kickoffs is amazing. Our kickoff coverage is pretty good. I wish I could be more specific, but I wasn't watching 100% of the time.

i watched alot of the practice and here are is a recap

what was impressive: vince was a beast, pass rushing, run stopping, and covering receivers, WOW
wynton made a very impressive two handed grab over the middle behind him on a 20 yard slant
rashad broke a 60 yarder on the second team "D" down the side line
very few penalties, a false start on a first team TE and he was sidelined
Our First team D has a great pass rush... the D line is looking great (even in the 3-4)
not so impressive:
kicker missed a 41 yarder ,or so, and Rocco made him kick it over, missed two more times and practice was continued
two minute drill by offense imo was not affective............ they threw three passes that were only 3 or 4 yards (they did get out o of bounds, but they left the kicker with a 51 yarder and he missed it.

overall ......... the teams tenacity was great and i think the guys are pumped that the games are right around the corner, and my advice to all flame fans is to learn the fight song if you dont know it....... tonight after the team prayed they walked over to where the student section is and sang the fight song... if they do this after every home game victory i would be very excited.

Two things: The fight song was a tradition that Coach Rocco started last year.

Secondly, Noah did miss a couple 41 yard kicks. However, the next time he came up for a 40+ yarder later in practice, Vince walked up so him, said something, and gave him a high five before going to the line of scrimmage, and Noah nailed the kick right through the up rights. Noah's been solid throughout camp, and the wind was a little weird tonight with some light rain, etc. Not making an excuse, just pointing out that he's been very solid throughout camp. The 50+ yard field goal was on line, and just came up about a yard or two short. It was accurate though.

i agree that he was solid through camp......... but when rocco kept giving him the opportunity, noah missed the same 41 yarder to the right three times in a row, the wind was no factor, i just would have liked to see him make one........... but you are right he has earned the starting job, but it was just a recap of "tonights practice", and it was not impressive. so last year the team walked over to the fans and sang the fight song after the wins at home.... huh....... didnt know that.......... GO FLAMES.

More importantly, I like that Vince came up to him and talked him up a bit. After the past few years of kickers, that position is going to need a little love from time to time.

Thanks for the updates guys. Hopefully Noah will be consistent. That's all we need is consistency. I can't wait to see Vince in action.

This came from days in Austin with the legendary "Eyes of Texas".

Yea, since Texas is the only school smart enough to think of that.

Not the one & only but certainly the original. But since the Horns are west of the Appalachians I wouldn't expect many of you guys to be aware.
