How about James McKnight/Maurice Jones combination or Courtney Freeman/Robert Butz. Those were good combinations too but my favorite was Nelson/Parrish/Queen/ and TE Eric Green.

I also like Fred Banks, Kelvin Edwards, Doug Smith, and TE Rennie Jones. They were there when I was on campus.

How about Curt Christians? Oh that's right, none of you guys would remember him played 73-76, not bad for an old guy though. :D

No, I don't go back quite that far back. I thought that Kirt Christians played baseball by the way. Was Rock Royer the coach back then or was it Bill Cartright.

Curt Christians may have played baseball, I really don't remember. He is one of the very few from the early days who probably could have played on today's squad. Fast, tall and very good hands. Rock only coached one year 73, so he played for Rock and Cartright. I think Cartright still has his church in the Philly area. Medic ought to break out and go to church for a change and let us know how it is going. :D Might want to call ahead Medic and let them know so they can reinforce the rafters before you arrive.

This is the group I was thinking of as the best ever ... primarily because of the first two NFL guys. Basso & Johnson only had to send a pass in the general direction with those guys and it would pay dividends.

It is a shame we were so bad on the O line and D line we would have had more success with those guys out there doing there thing. I thought that Mike Forslund was the other QB that threw to them and not Paul Johnson. When Johnson became a starter Banks and Edwards had graduated.

Banks was gone for Johnson but not Special K.

I could have sworn that Special K was gone when Johnson became a starter (He redshirted when Special K was a senior). I think that Amos Horton was the starter when Edwards was a senior.

Rennie Jones played for the Eagles as well. I believe he played during the strike year too but before that. Rennie was at homecoming last year too. What a talented group.

Doug Smith was also a late NFL cut, I believe it was the Bengals. That was indeed an exceptional group.

I remember Doug Smith's "breakout game" being the game he had vs James Madison in 84. Oh what a game it was but we lost something like 52-45. Before that he did very little.

Rennie Jones was the first in a long line of great Tight Ends we had followed by Eric Green, Mark Thomas, Dwayne Carswell, Tony Dews, and Peter Foy.

TJ McReight was also in that group of TE's.

I remember him (McCreight). He transferred from Pitt and was a backup to Mark Thomas. He had some good speed but wasn't that big.

I remember Curt Christian from the early football teams, very good player, receiver. I had some classes with him at LBC. Coach Royer was a member of my church in Tampa Fl, Temple Heights Baptist when LBC hired him. His wife taught there for some years after his death.

Curt Christians must have played during the Chip Smith era. One of the all time leading rushers

I checked the records and that game was 52-43. Im sorry for being picky, but I wanted to put that out there.

Yes Curt Christian played at the same time as Chip Smith. I think the QB at that time was a guy by the name of Dean Philips I believe.
QB Competition

We have some strong points (not many) but overall […]

Bowling Green

We need to play more physical. Lost that with JSU […]

Charlie Kirk

But all the comments are that he wasn't a leftist.[…]

The poor guy didn’t make it very long. :)
