Yea, there are a few nice campuses that were mentioned, such as Princeton and Pepperdine, but that's just to give the article a little validation to go along with their paid promotional.

Overall, this list is a complete farce.

Sweet Briar has a beautiful campus, and it's all together. UVA has some great buildings and a lot of history, but much of it's sort of strewn about the town of Charlottesville (or rather an area of the town). The campus is all over. I'm not going to pretend to know what the criteria were for this list, but that might have been a factor. I can't speak for W&M, as I haven't explored it as thoroughly. Sweet Briar isn't huge, but it's well put together and somewhat scenic. I was pleasantly surprised to see it make the list.

BTW, that Flagler College is amazing. The exterior aesthetics are nice but the interior is phenomenal with all of the trimmings...granted, the site being a former luxury hotel helps a bunch, but still, those facilities are awe-inspiring (at least from the photos.)

The list is bogus, and I'm sure that there was some kind of incentive for the editors to select those schools. If the Times-Dispatch rated the schools across Virginia, UVA and W&M would go 1-2, easily, and Sweet Briar would barely make the top five. The same would hold true for North Carolina, where Wake, Duke, and UNC woud go 1-2-3, before anyone would even think about considering Elon. And yet, UVA, W&M, Wake, UNC, Duke ect. didn't even make the list, but Sweet Briar and Elon did, along with CUNY-Brooklyn?

Boston College and Cornell are breathtaking, especially in the spring and fall. Notre Dame, Colgate, and Stanford have to be up there as well. Rice and BYU are impressive. And yet, these schools don't even make the list.

I gotta disagree with Duke being that high. I've been to their campus many, many times. The faux-gothic structures & acid-washed stone to give it an older look, cheapens the campus.

I agree with Wake. That campus has an amazing setting. UNC's campus is nice, though they always have construction going on that takes away from it a little bit.

UVA's is really nothign to write home about. Sure there's some cool authentic Jeffersonian buildings but as a whole, it's just like a downtown looking area. I'll agree with Duke not being that great either. Neat gothic looking buildings but, eh.

Flagler looks like a smaller imitation of Stanford. So, maybe it should be on a list of nice tiny little campuses that are almost as aestheticly pleasing as the schools that they mimic

Yes. Duke has a gorgeous gothic campus...that is surrounded on all sides by the trashcan that is the city of Durham. It creeps in all around, and ruins the vibe I get at Duke completely. Sure, the woods and everything are nice barrier, but Durham is like a disease.

As for North Carolina, I grew up in Chapel Hill and I'll say that it's alright, but the campus shows it's age. It's classic, but not necessarily among the most beautiful in my mind. Especially with some of the ugly old buildings around there. You can definitely tell it's a government operation.

The Rotunda has to be the most photographed campus building in the US. That entire section is really cool to look at, during any season of the year. I'd say that the Rotunda and Rugby Avenue alone are enough to get them into the top-10 of any real list.
