You guy wanna explain this colossal meltdown you guys are having right now? For all that crap you talked back in May and June, you've been pretty quiet lately.

for all the crap GMTM was talking...rephrase it...a for myself and all the Red Sox fans in my family we knew to keep our mouths shut...we were glad to see the Yankees down...but its not right for any Red Sox fan to talk too much crap early...

this was always my stance...I am sure I could go back and find my posts about it

There were others on here besides GMTM that were talking crap. You never did though.

Peter Gammons, aka Baseball Jesus, who wrote for the Boston Globe forever and still lives in the area, says the best team in the AL is the Yankees right now.

Funny thing is, I generally hate the Yankees, and yet I'm pulling for them just because of Red Sox fans (not you Posty, but the others on here and on other message boards).

I will never shy away from talking Sox....I am concerned but not hitting the panic button....We should have won today at Baltimore but look at who the Yanks have been playing and then look at who we have been playing....Our schedule gets much more easier from here on out...than what NY has....

But you have Eric Gagne who will continue to blow leads until he can find some more steroids that are undetectable.

I was 50/50 on that trade....I just don't think he is what he used to be back in L.A....but we shall see.. it doesn't help that the Yanks are getting there younger pitching back after early injuries...

Gagne's not on steroids anymore, that's why he's not what he was in LA.

As a Sox fan, I, too, knew not to take pleasure too early...in fact, I'm still leary they will retroactively find a way to take away 2004...seriously though, only a newly minted Sox fan, or an imposter would mail the results in that early. (On that other thread, my posts will reveal that I reside in the skeptic sox camp, not the brazen one.)

Although, they've had some missteps, and Ortiz at 50% along with the big bats relatively silent, I also think it's too early to don the

Still a lot of season left to play. (I do like the make-up of this team as the chemistry reminds me a little bit of the '04 team.)

Go Sox...

I was flat out against the Gagne trade....there was no indication he was back to old form....

I don't really remember any other red sox fans on this board beside GMTM that talked trash...there were a lot of Yankee haters that were enjoying the yankees sucking...but not red sox fans talking trash

GMTM, look what you started!!!

haha...

either that or this is SJ just looking for a fight....

As a lifetime San Diego Padre Fan (Who's team is also having issues right now), I believen this is retribution for the Red Sox Ruining one of my sons. After I successfully brainwashed my oldest son as a Padre fan, the Red Sox won a world series. That combined with too much PS2 MLB MVP, turned my second son into a Red Sox fan. So this slide and the eventual complete collapse is pay back for me having to hear about the Red Sox all the time. At least it's that way in my twisted world. I have a 3rd son who is almost 3 and the Sox must die to protect me from another defection. However they've all been told that they will be kicked out of the house if I ever see any Yankee Crap.

This was all compounded by the espn hacks declaring the Yankees' season over after about 30 games. This was unbelievable to me, considering this same exact scenario happened just a few short seasons ago. It's amazing how a 10 game lead in the first two months of the season is definitive by espn standards. Just like declaring the leage MVP after two weeks, and picking next years finishers the day after any championship game. espn likes to create news rather than report it, and that gave red sox fans a big head. but in reality they don't have much to worry about, the sox are just about the best team in the league.

This year is going to cause a lot of heartbreak for most AL fans, because there are six teams that have a legit chance, and only one of them will end up on top.

very nicely put....I was getting so annoyed with ESPN as a Red Sox fan because I know not to celebrate in freaking June and it seemed as if ESPN forgot about how the Yankees are....

I am not sold that the Yankees will take over first place...but I wouldn't be shocked if they got the wildcard...but there is still a long ways to go and lots more can happen....

lasst time i checked, which was 5 seconds to go, the Red Sox still have the largest division lead in the MLB and the best overall record in the MLB. How can you call that a "meltdown"

also, who ahve the yankls played since the second half started? 8 games agianst the devil rays, 7 games vs. toronto, 7 games vs. KC, 3 vs. baltimore, 3 vs. white sox, 3 vs. cleveland. Tampa SUCKS, Toronto is decent, KC SUCKS, baltimore is semi-decent, white sox suck horribly now, and cleveland has been playing around .500 ball in the second half. so basically their second half schedule has been extremely easy.

meanwhile, the sox have played 4 vs. toronto, 3 vs. KC, 4 vs. white sox, 4 vs. cleveland, 3 vs. tampa bay, 6 vs. baltimore, 3 vs. seattle, and 3 vs. angels. so the red sox have played considerably less games against two of the worst teams in MLB - 6 vs KC/TB for sox; 15 vs. KC/TB.

The Sox still ahve 9 games against Tampa Bay and ahve a winning record agains tevery remaining opponent, other than Oakland and they only have 2 games against Oakland, so i'm not worried.

The Yanks starting pitching has been middle of the pack since the All-Star Break and ahve been winning via offense, and everyone knows that pitching is what wins games, especially late in the season. And so what if Gagne sucks now, if eh doesnt improve all we gotta do is bench him and start using another middle reliever, we got others that can fill in and do better - okajima, delcarmen, romero, timlin, and snyder have all done really good or well this season.

yes, and the sox schedule gets easier now while the yanks schedule gets harder. meanwhile the yanks closed the lead with an easier schedule than the sox.

I'll chime back in...Frustrating, yes, but not time to sound the alarm yet. Gagne will find a groove...getting acclimated to the Red Sox takes a little bit. Hey, even Rivera has blown some pretty important games...we'll all have another round table in late September...we (my fellow dirty water drinkers and I) may be inconsolable and morose, but I'm not betting on it...playoffs should be fun this year

haha, ok man....pretend to be tough on a message board all you want...but I know red sox history and I know that nothing is safe...that year we cam back and beat the Yankees was great...but it still hasn't become the norm

I am not saying I have lost all hope...the Red Sox are very talented, more so then the yankees....it just concerns me when the yankees make a run....i begin to have flashbacks...

You're right about their pitching, but remember they just added several new pitchers including highly touted, yet unproven, rookies in Joba Chamberlain and Philip Hughes. Both of whom could make a big difference. Either way, I don't see the Tigers or Indians doing much in the postseason. Mainly becasue of the Tigers injuries, otherwise they would be a favorite.

The intersting thing about this season is that there are really no great teams. We'll see what happens down the stretch run. What should make it exciting is that the teams with the most potential are the Yankees and Red Sox. That will make for some exciting drama in September.
