The "problem" is whatever is lacking that results in our not having made it into post-season play with any consistancy in baseball or MBB, and never having made it in football in spite of the fact that we have the best record in the BSC over the past several years.
BSK started this thread presenting the premise that the problem is a lack of "swagger". I'm pretty sure he knew he was pushing a bit of a hot button with that. You can play around with semantics all you want, but the fact is the word has some negative connotations, especially from a christian perspective. It implies an air of cockiniss and entitlement and a lack of humility. I don't think any of those things necessarily help you win, and they can in fact hurt you.
I countered with the suggestion that our most successful programs have achieved that success not with swagger, but with superior talent. He then did what appears to be a 180, agreed with me, but implied that we need new coaches to get better recruits.
We have a new football coach, so that doesn't even apply for at least a few years. In baseball, recruiting is Toman's forte. The problem there is sometimes questionable in-game management and the fact that we have to deal with maybe the best program in any sport in our conference in Gilmore's Coastal squad. IMHO, the jury is out on Dale Layer. He has gone "all in" with a JUCO-dominated recruiting class, and he needs to get results soon. The solution in all cases lies in talent, not attitude.
