The last thing we want to see on our schedule after a brutal loss at VMI is a road trip to Winthrop. But that's where we head on Thursday, like it or not.

Overall Record: 9-4
Big South Record: 3-0

The Eagles have a game Monday night at Charleston Southern before they meet us on Thursday. But barring a shocking turn of events they should bring a 4-0 conference mark into our showdown.

Well, if Whit Holcomb-Faye is capable of scoring 37 on Winthrop, then Larry Blair may likely have a big night as well against WU (he has generally played well against the Eagles in his career)...However, Winthrop's advantage inside on both ends of the court will likely give Liberty alot of problems. Also, Risher will likely face alot of pressure from the Winthrop guards, so he'll have to be able to handle to give LU any chance to win...

The problem we've been having is that LB is putting up the numbers and not getting enough support. The Radford game showed the weakness in that scenario for us against the Eagles.

All that said, if we play a great game we can pull off the upset.

I think a change in the lineup HAS to happen. We all know WU is about 20 points better than the 2nd place team in the league. Our only shot is to throw something at them they they haven't seen us do, and tricks like that only work for about a half if that. I would say put Larry at the 1 but he was there early last season and it didn't go that well. We need him moving off the ball to score. So really what else is there: As you may know, I want Russ at the 4. Maybe not starting, but at least give it a shot. I guess leave Risher at PG. We need to push the ball all game long. Marshall teams have always played stellar D. If we can stay in transition, they can't set it up. It would also prevent the full court press as we suck at getting past that. I've also noticed that we are actually pretty good at running and have scored pretty easily while doing it. Keys: 1. Rebouding; despite losing most of our games, we often outrebound our opponent. It's very condusive to running a face paced game. 2. Keep Blair Fresh; we're not that deep and if we played this style of game, Blair would need bench time as we know he doesnt often see it. 3. Limit TO's; fast break teams generally have more TOs than a halfcourt team. So obviously the less the better.

I know it might seem smarter to drain the shotclock on every posession and shorten the game, and I would definatly support that decision as it is a good plan, I just think after watching this team struggle with our halfcourt offense this would be our best shot.

Spread them out --

I'd go with this lineup:

PG - Risher
SG - Blair
SF - Hubbard
PF - Stewert
C - Porter

Looks nice in theory, but ...

Risher has been awful at the point. Can't shoot. Doesn't make plays.

And Stewart is a two in a four's body. He has no interest in playing defense and isn't capable of matching up with a decent-sized four defensively.

Rell, and I dig the guy's effort, soul and passion for the game, would get eaten alive at the five.

This team is very flawed. Best bet is that this group gets experience, and when you add Brewington and Jones next year, the reinforcements will help a bunch. I'm telling you, Dunton, Sherrard, Jones, Martin and Co. are coaching their tails off, but there's a max for a group, and this particular one might have hit it.

I think you all know it is going to be ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen Winthrop play this year and they are better now then they ever have been. This might be the best Winthrop Basketball Team in the School's history.

Let's hope for a miracle.

That has happened a couple of times at the Coliseum...but never for long enough to cancel the game.

russell is a project period. he really brings us nothing right now. he needs to get tougher. risher has just lost all confidence. we need consistency, and someone needs to help out larry with the scoring load. this would be the lineup i would run out there:

blair, bigby, smith, hubbard, porter. stewart would be first off the bench, then justin holland. he just needs time on the court since he has been injured. we need the five best players out there at this point. we are 15 games into the season so the young excuse does not work anymore.

OK...now I can focus on this game now that CSU has been taken care of. If I'm LU, I figure out a way to slow down James Shuler, he's taking over games right now...

There have been a couple of run-ins in the past between CSU football players and the Winthrop basketball team when WU has come down to play CSU in Charleston. CSU lines up their football players just behind the baseline near the Winthrop bench to talk trash, etc., and late in the game last night, WU's Otis Daniels went flying into their group for a loose ball and as he was getting back onto the court, he got in a short shoving match with one of the football players (I couldn't tell who was at fault from my angle).

The more infamous moment came three years ago when WU won a close OT game and the football players followed the Winthrop team down the hall toward the locker room....not sure if it is true, but I've heard that Marshall yelled to them something along the lines of, "Give me 6 months, and I could put together a football team that could beat you guys on the football field"...that was when CSU was awful at football....

I really just want to get this stupid game over with. I think Blair will get locked down and I'll make us 23 point dogs. If we get beat any worse than that I'll be concerned. If we come within 7, I'll be encouraged. Anything in the middle: Status quo for me.

Not sure why they ever thought that putting fans on the baseline would be a good idea.

esp after that fiasco in the NBA last year.

It'll stop when there's a similar brawl and people get arrested and/or sued.

And it's not as if you aren't close to action in that place no matter where you sit/stand. If you are on the front row on the side opposite the benches, if you stretch your legs out in front of you far enough, you can touch the sideline.

Gotta love that 790 seat CSU Field House, smallest in Division I. I went to an impoverished Christian high school, and I think we had a bigger capacity.

I bet Kalander fasts for 40 days before each season praying that CSU doesn't get the high seed in the Tournament. Talk about your all-time backfires. Little does he know i'ts pretty much money in the bank that they won't.

Yeah, imagine if a team like CSU, Coastal, or UNCA got the top seed in this year's tourney (good thing there is practically no chance at that)...with this season's format, the regular season champ hosts both semifinal games (so that they can be televised by ESPNU), so what would happen if any of those teams won? None of their facilities could handle that...I'd guess that UNCA would try and move to the Asheville Civic Center, and Coastal would try to get the Myrtle Beach Civic Center...but what about CSU? The N. Charleston Coliseum is already booked (SoCon Tourney), so they'd likely have to use the Citadel's Fieldhouse...how silly would that look. Winthrop and Liberty could definitely handle it, and Radford and VMI both have decent sized facilities, but the other schools (especially the three I named) couldn't handle the semis under the current format.
