I saw something like this over at the Gonzaga message board, and I thought you guys might be interested in seeing what the future of the team looks like in fairly simple terms..

I got a kick out of your ** by Soko and the explaination. Actually, that could apply to him or to Perez, since neither has signed. I'm thinking if we have to make a choice, Ovie gets that schollie (but we won't).

I have a chart very similar to that for WU that I've been keeping up with the last few years. Really doesn't take long to put together and really helps visualize lineups and needs in the future.

I know it would be relatively easy, but you've gotta be bored to make it in the first place.

It is a nice reminder that the Class of 2012 is a whopper. if ever we will be primed to make major noise it would appear to be that season when we field a team of seniors.

Agreed, and imagine if McKay can add a solid true post player?

Thanks ToTheLeft for posting this!

I first noticed a scholarship grid on a Georgetown Hoyas message board about a two years ago. I thought about doing one here, but been so busy with school. It is quite common and simple to do, but it does take some careful thought and organizational skills....and according to SuperJon, a lot of idle time on your hands! :P If you guys think this is something, just wait until football season!

careful thought and organizational skills? a lot of time? this probably takes like 15 minutes tops to make in excel. you guys act like this guy cleared out a whole day to do this.

It does take those elements to do work on this, even in excel. I don't know about your MS Suite skills, but mines is ok at best. I appreciate the effort that anyone contributes here. Who said I didn't care?

Great idea.

I've noticed that there isn't a ton of flexibility for 10-11. Right now we lack enough scholarships to accommodate everyone who is currently on the roster / verbals (14 out of 13). In 10-11, it's not much better. We have one commit (Sanders) and we lose one player (Ohman). Assuming Baker stays, we have no room for any new freshmen.

And we have a heck of a lot of guards at a time when the conference is starting to go big(ger)...

We are also bringing in a bunch of bigs (3 bigs will be freshmen next season). If everyone stays, we won't need anyone else besides John Caleb. If somebody leaves, we'll be able to be selective. The next couple of years look very nice IMHO.

Next year, and possibly in 10-11 if Tyler stays, we will 4 players 6'9 or taller (2 at or near 7'), plus Soko at 6'7 or thereabouts and Minaya and Brolin at 6'6. I'm not sure why people keep saying we have too many guards when to me it is clear that our biggest need is at least one more reliable ball handler. You can call Kyle and Jeremy guards, but they are swing players who can shoot, and neither one has much of a handle, and neither does Brolin. I haven't seen enough of Minaya to know. Seth is not strong with the ball against defensive pressure yet, and Stephene has talent, but who knows what's going on in his head right now. In any event, his game went South in the second half of the season.

Our bigs may not be the bruisers some of us on the board would like to have, but they are definately not guards either.

It's been that way as long as I can remember, and to be honest, it is plenty. NBA teams play an 82 game schedule of 48 minute games with a roster of 12, and typically the 11th and 12th man don't see the floor much at all.

It used to be 14. John Thompson, Jr., who was the coach at Georgetown at the time, and other African-American coaches was against it because it meant one less player would not be able to go to college. In many cases, this would be minority players from urban backgrounds.

Anyway, I think the main reason why they reduced it from 14 was because of the rise of women athletics. The NCAA wanted the women to have every opportunity like the fellas. I forgot what its called...is it Title IX?

I know the reason women have 1 more is to try to equalize the overall scholarship numbers. It's like a drop in the bucket though if you have a football team. I was thinking they added one to the ladies, but I believe Blesssed1 is right about reducing the men from 14 to 13. It's still plenty.

Your gut instinct tells you that Title IX is the reason for the reduction from 15 scholarships to 13 scholarships. However, the following articles seem to suggest the NCAA's official reason was that the reduction was to cut education costs and to reduce an overemphasis of collegiate athletics. I'm sure that Title IX did play a part though, how much, the NCAA won't say.

It kind of reminds me of Obama's financial plan of "equality"

Take money from those who make it and give it to those who don't and won't.
