I am a little concerned about the amount of minutes these kids are logging so early in the season. Our 5 starters are putting up 30+ minutes in most of the games thus far. I realize a lot of this is due to the fact of injuries to Brolin, Carter, JA, and Baker, but we have got to find time for Bill and Austin in particular until we get a couple guys back healthy.

coach mentioned this last night in the post game with JE. So it's something he's obviously aware of and doesn't like. I think the return of Baker is going to change a lot of what we see on the floor. In terms of minutes and style of play.

We joke a lot about Tyler on here, but getting him back on the floor and playing even 20-25 minutes a game would be a really big deal for the success of this years team.

If TB can get back and play 15-20 minutes of solid play, good defense, rebounding, and knock down a couple shots we will be in great shape. That's really all we need from him. He doesn't have to be a star.

But what's his prognosis? I've never heard a definitive timetable for his return.

Having TB just take the pressure of Anthony, Brolin and even Ohman playing against guys 45-50 lbs. heavier than they are will be huge! Anthony was battling down low all game and having someone like TB to take the pressure off him for just 4-5 minutes at a time should do wonders for his game.

Anything he gives us offensively is a bonus, IMO.

It changes. That's the nature of his injury. It's just one that keeps nagging and when they think it's gone, it comes back. I don't know what the issue is. I think right now the goal is the Anderson game.

Ankle injuries are tough. Running straight ahead is one thing but the moment you have to plant and cut, it could give way at any moment.

lol...sadly I can vouch for what medic is saying. I remember watching the 06 Olympics and one of the aerial skiers who had had knee surgery the year prior totally blew her ACL again landing a jump. It doesnt take much to set you back a good ways.

Actually its an interesting story about my ankles (with all this talk about my knees). I had a very unusual walk when I grew up. I actually would walk with my feet pointed out instead of straight forward. I did that for so long it just became normal and now my ankles are out of alignment with the rest of my legs. Course now when I roll my ankles it doesnt hurt at all.

In order for us to achieve our goals this season, I think it's crucial for someone to step up and provide us with 10-15 solid minutes as our 7th man. If we could have 2 step up so we could go 8 deep that would be icing on the cake. Our 5 starters + Stephene are arguably the best top 6 in the conference, but there will be games when they need help. Baker, Summers, Weaver, and Austin are the guys that will have to do this.

I think once Baker (if it happens) gets 100% healthy and confident, he will provide just what we need. But we don't know if he will be 100% healthy and confident. I think Weaver is the next most likely to be able to provide us some much needed depth.

Other than the 5 fouls, Tyler's productivity last night was just what the doctor ordered. 8 points in 11 minutes, and you can't improve on perfection in the shooting department (2-2 from the field and the same from the line). If he can up the minutes to 15-20, it will be HUGE.

I still see Austin being what we need down low once he gets a handle on what causes the whistle to blow.

The addition of Summers along with the return of Tyler have been great additions in light of Carter's redshirt.

Not to be negative nancy, but Summers has done nothing but provide an extra body in practice thus far. Of course I hope he's able to contribute during game time, but to say otherwise at this point would not be true.

We get a walk-on midseason who can give us some minutes & fouls off the bench. I'm pleased as punch especially considering he has only been practicing with the team for about two weeks.

oh no- you couldn't be more wrong. Why, just the other day- I was reading how Winthrop is far and away the most talented team in the league. Why, with the group they have, playing the way they did the other night (in a loss, but who counts silly things like POINTS, or WINS and LOSSES), they'll "beat anyone in conference by 20 points".

you're just sadly mistaken. We should all quit now and give <del> Marshall </del> Peele's boys the trophy.

We do need to improve defensively, though CofC has been putting up even bigger totals all season.

let them continue to think that, this is not the Lu teams of the past, nor is it the coach of the past. Winthrop has a stunning resume at the moment themselves lol

One of the main reasons we lost last night was because of our lack of depth. After Jesse and Bro fouled out we were done. We were playing offense 3 or sometimes 2 on 5. Tyler has completely lost all confidence in his shot which is dissapointing. In warmups he has the most pure shot of anyone on our team, but then in the game when he takes one it looks awful. Not having JA really hurts because that would give us another great shooter on the court who would light them up if they sagged off him. I'm a big fan of Weaver, but last night he seemed a little lost or maybe he was intimidated by their size.

The good thing coming out of last night is the fact the "others" HAD to play meaningful minutes in crunch time. Next time, they will have been at least "battle tested."
