As far as gambling is concerned, it should't be a factor one way or another as to whether the information is given out. It would be more "unethical", and affect the results of any bets on a game more, to withhold information about an injury than to give it out. If a key player is injured, and it is kept a "secret", the betting line will be innacurate, and someone with inside information could potentially benefit. This is one reason why this information is usually made public (with the consent of the athlete of course.)
