Based on what we know of his collegiate stops, Dawson should be a R-Jr based on what you laid out oldflame. Definitely a question for RMK to be asked in the next interview.

Excited the guys get this trip to Costa Rica. Great timing with a young team that will be together for a couple years. Would love to know if they are going to get some games in or if this is just a straight outreach opportunity. Biggest advantage is the team practices that the NCAA allow this month prior to the trip. Big for a young team especially given the strength of the schedule right out of the gates.

Why would they go without playing games?

Some times on these trips they primarily put on clinics and partner with a group like SCORE International or some other to help local missionaries/church organizations. Costa Rica doesn't have many teams that would give a D1 program a competitive game which is why I questioned how many games. The travel, bonding, practice times are still a major advantage and a reason to do a trip like this without playing games. The work with local believers also solidifies RMK and the school mission for the type of young men they want to develop.

The games they play on this trip won't mean a lot, it will be the bonding experience that should reap benefits From a basketball perspective, the big deal here is the 10 full-team practices they are allowed to prepare prior to the trip That should give them a nice head start going into the fall with so many new players

Exactly. The women went to Israel a couple years ago and played Israeli and Palestinian teams and won with average score @ 70-20.

I have to say that, even without a scholarship, bringing in Hicks was a bit of a head-scratcher to begin with Then we added Pacheco and Chen and put Farquar on the roster as a walk-on, and there just doesn't seem to be any role for a 2 guard who is primarily a spot-up shooter If I recall from his interview with York, he wants to major in engineering, so he will have his hands full with academics

Great video with Coach McKay previewing the Costa Rica trip and talking a little about the team. Here is the link.

Sounds like they have had 8 of the 10 practices allowed by the NCAA at the time of the video. Anybody been able to peak in and give us a scouting report? I'm sure it is mostly returners running against new guys for the most part right now.

Good news is it sounds like we will get some coverage and video each day on the trip from libertyflames.com.

Nice breakdown Jon! Never too early to look ahead. :D

This trip to Costa Rica will help set my expectation level for the season. I know its very early but I'm curious to see how much production the new guys will bring overall. I'm not sure if we will see stats or playing time breakdown but if they can add to our already improving group from last year with just a couple months on campus, it will be a good sign of things to come.

We saw how the guys improved as they got more familiar with the system and I expect the same from the new guys. Biggest difference this year is a quality group of returners. Cabbil, Dawson and Homesley got stronger as the season progressed. Kemrite, Reid and ETalbert were solid. Give those guys another year of experience, development. So the question is can the new guys produce more than our roster losses of Maxwell and Fields?

So based on Jon's article, and I know it is early, could we be talking about a 20 win season?

Cairn, Central Penn, Clarks Summit, UMass Lowell, Miss Valley St and 1 win of his "Toss Up" UNCG, Furman, Lamar (6 wins)

Top 4 teams in conference last season won at least 12 of the 18 games. We should be top 4 this year. (12 wins)

That puts us at 18 wins heading into the conference tourney. That is barring no slip ups to lesser talent and also no big wins against better competition. Also, only improving by 2 games and going 12-6 in the Big South.

Hard to believe that 20 could be a possibility. Not sure I can go that far at this point but would love to see this group come together that quickly. I think we haven't hit 15 wins in a season since 2010-11 and the last 20 win season was probably 2008-09.

Here's hoping this week in Costa Rica is the start of something special this season!

I like the break down. Id bet on less than 20 wins this season, but it wouldn't be too long of odds. I have stated this before, but I do believe Myo Baxter Bell will be second team all conference, and Brock will be FOY . That is two pretty strong new comers to the fold of an already developing young group.

While his name is no longer on the roster, it appears Brody Hicks is still a part of the MBB program Probably practice squad, like Farquar was last year He is with the team in CR and posted some video on his twitter
