I didn't mind what the track team did... I mean sure I'd never act that way but honestly who cares...

Because of 40 people, people think we're nuts? I agree with you, but that's only because they've made up their minds already.

So, are you you proud of that? From someone who is so quick to point out what you percieve to be lack of effort on the part of others, I would have expected a higher level of comittment.

Actually................................................ no. That's just you, assuming you know everything and everyone must agree with you.

No offense olldflame but you need to calm down and stop attacking everything I write. I mean, do you just go around looking for little things to nit-pick and get all ticked off about?

I'm surprised by the negative reaction to the track team. EVERY school, and pro team has wacky fans. It shows enthusiam, and doesn't make us look bad at all. People complain of a lack of passion amongst students, but when they go out of their way to support them team they get ridiculed. You can't have it both ways. I was impressed with the fans, because they didn't leave, and they stayed really loud.

Actually jbock, I would suggest maybe you should take a look at what you have been writing and ask yourself why a mild mannered old guy like me, who almost never gets into arguments here, finds it so arrogant and offensive that I feel the need to respond to it. BTW, it hasn't been just me.

And for the record, although I have disagreed with you, don't ever expect me to resort to calling you a jerk, or any other personal attack.

I like the track team...if all the fans were like that on the student side the Vines Center would probably be one of the loudest arenas in the country (one of the track guys called me Pistol Pete...PM me if you want to know the story on that one)

Well, I never came here to make friends... :D And sorry about the jerk part, that was my fault I shouldn't have said it that way (I truly mean that). As for other people on here, I could really care less who says what about me.

You are right. I convinced some people I know to check the game out, because I thought it would be a close game. Man was I wrong. Atleast the Vines was pretty filled up, and the crowd was stoked. That looked good atleast.

With that being said, we live and die by Evan Gordon. When he plays well, we have a chance to win. When he isn't playing well, we don't.
that wasn't really the case today. Eg was solid with 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Wejust didn't defend or play with much passion.

I'm worried if we can rebound after these tough losses

In the first half he had two points. The first half was when we really got killed. When Evan was scoring and driving and playing tough defense, we played a better half than they did.

Jon's right...we have a first half like we did the second half this is probably a different outcome

I thought they had plenty of energy the first half almost to a fault. They seemed like they were caught up in the excitement of it all, and they made alot of mistakes. Almost like they wanted to showcase themselves on ESPN, and they were trying too hard instead of letting the game come to them. Just a really odd game.

No one seems to be giving Iona any credit for playing near flawless offense and smothering defense. They're a better team and it would have taken one of our most excellent performances to have beaten them today.

I think you really have to do it, but starting with James Spencer in the linup for his senior day instead of Minaya contributed to our slow start. Then the 2 steals by JB, which should have been momentum builders for us, turned into a downer instead when he missed all 4 FT, plus we didn't score on the posession after the intentional foul. 6-7 possible points and we get zilch. Then the first half just went downhill from there.

I was proud of the way we competed in the second half. The 2 most positive things I saw were Minaya getting his mojo back and some good minutes from Sommy.

I heard the basketball team was so happy about the only nationally ranked team on campus showing their support (in their own way) that they plan on attending a meet and cheering for the track team.

Not really. That would be just silly.

I agree totally about Minaya. He showed a lot of energy. When Coach Layer matched him up against Smyth at the very end, Smyth only got one hoop (a jumper in the lane, not a three), and that was on a switch. Sommy mixed it up in there, and at least made them work. Before that, it was "dunk at will".

In my opinion, that is how stats can be misleading. He really wasn't "solid". He was one of the main defenders without "passion", especially in the first half. He improved a bit in the second half. Eight of his points came in a 3 minute 2nd half stretch when he and others picked up the defensive intensity.

i had the opportunity to sit in the courtside seats today and it was fun. we were having fun with some of the Iona players, and they were giving it right back. they did say they loved our crowd. in my opinion if we would have played a perfect game we would not have won this game. they were bigger, more athletic, and just a better team. we got hammered on the boards. Iona would easily win the Big South with their talent and have been playing pretty good and shooing well lately based off of what i read. it was nice to see minaya get his shot back, but we simply looked flat or tired and the slow start by JB did not help either. the guys fought hard and played much better in the 2nd half, but as someone said earlier, this is the team i thought we could be like. we have not really played that well since the high point game. i hope the guys can get back on track for the last two big south games which we could easily lose if we do not play well. oh yeah, i love that the track team has been showing up and being crazy. it just adds to the atmosphere, and the students were great.

**does anyone else think that burrus has regressed as a player this season?

And right before they opened the doors to let everyone in the boo box guys got to go in and rope off a section. Alot of people around me will be sending emails to athletics including myself. New Lu slogan Be early (unless you know some who works at LU) (claim to be loud but let the rest of the student section handle the actual cheers then take credit for them), and wear red (or black or white or whatever)
Listen if you have a problem with us taking time out of our lives apart from athletic events to help out the athletic department and we are made an official on campus group and part of that perk is 3 rows in the middle of the student section then you can whine about it to athletics all you want because the LUnatics got the same reserved area for working WITH athletics to support the basketball team and they will tell you the same thing as they told everyone else who complained about it to them "oh well" Let me ask you something did you go around the vines and put newspapers up on every seat in the vines 2 weeks ago? No did you stick around after that game to take the untouched papers off the seats and dispose of them? No you didn't we did and we sacrificed our time to do so we help them they help us so seriously back off we have done a lot to try to change our overall appearance to support the School and the basketball team better and if you still have a problem with us then your just gonna have to deal with it because honestly we realize that theres always going to be someone with a problem and if its with you i can deal with that.
