Mason also mentioned RD was interested. That is like me saying I would be interested in dating a Victoria Secrets model.................................. never going to happen and it should not have been mentioned even as a possibility. IMVVVHO. Same thing with the VA HC, that is just silly talk, as great as that would be.

Sorry PH... no offense meant.
None taken.
Years ago, in a message thread far far away.....
We had what seemed like every message thread devolve into a urination competition regarding a past coach. The point was brought up numerous times that so many years had past it was foolish to think they had any influence over our program. Thus, if you we're going to bring up their nAme you were going to be responded to by the name of another coach from the past. Jeff Meyer was chosen since he spanned every stage of our hoops Developement from NCCAA to NCAA D1. (DAle Gibson was runner up since he has the only national title in hoops). Basically there is a statute of limitations on the harm/help a coach can do to a program. Mel's tenure has 0 effect on our status today, so why bring it up. Also factor in the different economic situations of the various era's and it is difficult to compare. Since one coaches name engendered the most passion and hijacked every thread from baked goods to Barbie dolls, a penalty was put into place

Hope that helps

I have it on the record from a source inside the athletic department that a current player responded to a tweet from Ritchie McKay's daughter. I wonder what that could mean...

To expand on my question earlier:

Pro: There's a giant budget.
Pro: Brand new practice facility.
Con: The empty 8000 seat golf ball.
Con: The 8000 seat arena that is only half full even with a great crowd.
Con: No sustained success for 20 years.
Con: A horrible conference that, while getting better, still doesn't have the reputation that even the SoCon has.
Pro: The fan base is there if you win and entertain them.
Con: Until you start winning, the fans won't be there.

Yes - there is loads of potential with Liberty basketball. Basketball could take us to bigger places than football ever will. But we are looking for a guy who has already had success to give up that success to come resurrect a program with little success in 20 years. Why would someone do that other than for the money?

This hire is absolutely huge for the program. If we aren't successful with it, Liberty basketball will become a place head coaches go to die.

I say all that to say this: why are we going after a retread of a Division I head coach and not growing a pair and taking a chance on someone ready to build? That’s what Danny Rocco was. He had loads of assistant coaching experience and was ready to take the next step. That’s what we need. Not a dude who’s been fired and wants one more shot at being a head coach.

Well... we do have a new arena on the master plan and JJ could always say "construction begins in a month."

Besides the aforementioned $$ and facilities, I would say some of the things listed as cons may actually make the job more attractive. The lack of success over the last 2 decades will be seen by some as an opportunity. Achieve even a modicum of success and you look like John Wooden. The fact that the BSC is not a strong conference makes for an easy path to the tourney most years if you can build a decent program. Ask Greg Marshall and Carey Green. The Vines Center presents a challenge, but for an aggressive, positive thinking individual, it too is a potential strength. Find a way to get at least 5-6000 in there on a regular basis and we once again have the best home court advantage in our conference.

Filling the Vines will be very simple and should not be a concern for the incoming coach. All he has to do is win. Used to fill the gym all the time back in the Aluma, Nuwoso, Hildebrand days, even on weeknights.
I will say, from where I sit, seems like the talent level of the entire conference has down some in the last several years. Hopefully we will get into a FBS conference soon.

He also hired Dale Layer.................. and gave him a 4 year extension following a 20 loss season. He needs to get this one right. BTW, you may want to do a little checking on the proper use of apostrophes.
