I imagine the coach said don't let Morgan take the shot. He hit 6 3's and hit the one to tie the game.

We're a young team we will get better this year and be more consistent. LU future is good. Evan, Baird, JVP, Antwan, etc.

25 TURNOVERS!! You cannot win a game against a decent team with 25 turnovers. Other than that we shot 52% for the game and played pretty well. Gotta get back on track before conference play starts.

It was 26 turnovers, actually.

(ducks)

Morgan was shooting 28 percent from 3 this season. He went 6-for-11 tonight. Sometimes a kid gets hot.

That is how you freaking choke a game away. I am so frustrated with this team/program as a whole. We are great one night and awful the next we start off great then we choke. its hot and cold. I can't stand that.

Well, that's even better. At least we get to watch the Caps take out their frustrations on the Penguins tomorrow night....woops, wrong thread

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

Hahaha, cmon guys. It's OOC. It matters not one little bit.

Joel was a monster.

They got to the line, and they made 3's when it counted. Oh well. Get ready for the Big South, that's what we did. Joel playing like that is going to be dominant in this conference.

yeah we lost but the big question going forward is how do we respond? we have a few days to enjoy the holidays and then a scrub game in Vines before we dive headfirst into conference play again to close out 2010.

How did we respond to getting beat out of conference earlier this season?

We went 2-0 in conference.

Very true TTL...if we replicate that sort of performance after the Union game next Tuesday night this could be a good way to go into 2011

I was at the game and it was ridiculously difficult to sit through the last 5 mins. Too many mistakes, the refs were d bags, and our guys seemed to have run out of gas on defense.

Joel looks really good. I think we are really good with Joel, Jesse, and Evan on the floor together.

If we play a full 40 minutes like we did the first 20 minutes last night, we would beat every team left on our schedule.

Tough loss, but wins on 12/31 and 1/2 will more than make up for it.

Positive for me in this game was JVP. His breakout game even in a loss is better long term than us winning the game but not finding our inside presence. This game will be a turning point going forward the rest of the year because of the game he had imo...

Also, no one complain when we recruit a 6' to 6'4 guy who can handle the press. Clearly we don't have enough ball handlers. TO's killed us. Period.

Did Hampton throw a full-court press on us for the entire game? I'm trying to understand how we could have had that many turnovers in a men's game.

Agreed, ALA--if JVP can score 12-14 points a game once we get into conference play, we have definitely found our center for the next 4 years.

Jim ... they ran a mix of defenses ... some full-court press, some half-court trap. They pressured the ball well. A lot of the turnovers were offensive fouls in the paint. There was some suspect cross-court passing, too.

Thanks, Lang. Once SCAR wakes up (or returns from Christmas shopping), I'd really like to hear his opinion of the game, too.

According to the box score our bigs were a large part of the turnover problem. 7 by JB and 4 by JVP (with no assists). Evan and Jesse had 5 each. That's not good, but they handle the ball a lot more and they also had 7 assists between them. Considering the number of touches they get, 11 turnovers from the 4 and 5 combined just shouldn't happen. As much as I love his game overall, Brown really needs to clean this up. He has basically as many turnovers on the year as our starting guards, with the ball in his hand a fraction of the time. His assist/turnover ratio is also bad at 1/2 (although Joel and Antoine are worse.)

I have to disagree with the assessment that if they play like they did the 1st 20 min they will win a lot. Liberty had 15 TO's at half time. The reason for the lead was that Hampton was out of sync at 1st without their leading scorer and we had really good offensive flow. The Turnovers were every kind you can imagine from stepping out of bounds, to 3 seconds to traveling when coming to a jump stop. 19 of the 23 1st half points were in transition off turnovers for Hampton. The last several possessions at the end of the game were pretty empty except for when Minayah hit the Jumper and got the steal and went coast to coast on a very tough play. That kid needs to play a lot more! He is sound. I think JC should play more too. He is really sound. He wasn't turning it over like everyone else.

Far be it for me to second guess coaching. I don't do that even though technically as an analyst I am in a position to do so. But I would have like to see Antwan, David, JC, Gordon and Jesse on the floor at the end. Those guys were playing the best to me. I understand keeping JB on the floor but in that game those guys were just as quick and athletic as he was and they gave him problems at times. David can do a lot of different things that John doesn't do. Not better not worse in terms of players but just different.

I had a great time at press row with Alan York and Chris Lang too. Harvey Grant is an assistant coach at Hampton and is now my new best friend :-) He is a really nice guy. He played at Independence Juco with my old Teammate Derrick D-Train Williams. Grant of course played in the NBA for many years in DC and Philly too. He played with a childhood friend Doug Overton in Washington so we have a few friends in common.

Nolan Fine and Larry Rose were sitting courtside too. Fine is an ACC evaluator of officials and Larry Rose is a long time ACC official that is retired now but working as an evaluator for the MEAC. A fun night for sure ruined by a melt down in the last few minutes. Bill Weaver and BJ Jenkins were in the house too home for Christmas break.

This team has a chance to be good for sure. JVP is playing within himself and doing the things he knows how to do. Plus he battles hard the whole time he is out there. Burrus is obviously a pretty good player as well. The conference is tough this year as nearly every team is playing decent ball but I think this Liberty team can go far.

That's an encouraging assessment. I hear you when you say Minaya can offer a lot. What I'm concerned about is his lack of aggressivness around the boards. He seldom gets rebounds and seems to have an aversion to mixing it up under the hoop unlikre JB.

As bad as the ending was, you can't expect it to happen very often. Doesn't happen. They (Hampton) have been competitive with league teams. Only thing that worries me is when I read that their best player wasn't in the line-up. I believe coach will correct the turnover issues.

Merry Christmas!
