Oh, on a side note, can we get a real band before next year? Like a real live normal college pep band. Our band is terrible. VMI's reminded me tonight how much a band can impact a game.

If unfinished business means putting some stupid chickens with testes on their chins in their place, then yeah, we'll do that next year, too.

Have fun struggling to make the Big South tournament next year!

Real band? The G-W pep band is non-existent. Our marching band started out well, but when their director passed it was a huge setback.:(

At least your fight song doesn't sound like 'roll out the barrel' sped up about five times too fast.

zdbecker wrote:One thing that really bothered me about tonights game had to do with our own school. There was a group of us, as wel as about 100 other students, who got there an hour and a half early, some of us having to skip class to get there or whatnot, waited in line, waited for an hour in the gym, just to get seats in the first 5 rows, to be loud and cheer on the team. And then, 5 minutes before tip-off, A group of the "prestige" from LU showed up, told all the students to move backj five rows and open up all 5 rows for all sorts of people who just sat there the whole night, didnt stand up or cheer once. I understand clearing the front row for JB, JF, thier families, players families and what not, but thats ubsurd, clearing out five for members of thomas road, for friends, for any one, we students who spend the little money we have to go cheer them on get pushed to the back, its has happened at other away games all year, it discourages me from going, im tired of it......plus it affects the team, it was much quieter on our side because of it, Stuck up move if you ask me....(except Dwane Carson, he came up and sat with everyone and cheered)
Points regarding that:
1) The first 4 rows were athlete family/friends
2) The fifth row was for Chancellor and Guest / Admin, 6th row for more Admin
3) Not sure how many donor rows there were, 2? 3? njliberty could maybe help on that. maybe not.

4) Jon said "get used to it." That's right. Get used to seeing the people who donate more money get better seats. It is just the way it is and way it should be.

5) As for cheering itself, the people within the first 5 rows were cheering. Not all of them, but enough to make noise. Were all of them standing up? No, but they werent all sitting on their hands either.
6) You also may have seen student employees sitting. They had been asked to sit by people behind them. And when you are an employee, you do what is best for the company. And the best thing was to keep the donors happy.

7) If the same number of people are yelling 10 feet farther away, its not that much of a difference. Of course, if the students are in front of the donors then youre all going to have to sit down, and trust me, its not an enjoyable experience.

Hopefully that makes sense.

WHAT ABOUT AN NIT BID FOR THIS YEAR. 22 WINS. QUALITY WINS. GREAT FAN BASE?

NIT is solely interested in ratings, and really, LU is not going to get the rating a low end ACC or big east school would, or even most mid majors with more name recognition, even if we have the record and wins. I dont think that is very likely....but, you never know, if Davidson bows out of thier conference tourney early and dont make the tourney, you could see them trying to possibly match up LU and davidson......but i doubt it.

i figured id chime in:

I cant complain or talk about the atmosphere and the fans as i was not there attending but watching on tv. i will say that vmi does have classless fans..but the same can be said for any school...especially ours(liberty). Lets not put blame on them for celebrating or showing off. It was a big game and they have the bragging rights and we are just sour we lost. What i saw on tv wasnt really different from any other game, its not like VMI is used to winning(no offense). It was an emotion filled game/season/rivalry...let it go and move on. I dont think they were classless when they smacked us at the vines before either. They are a 3 point shooting team..if they kept dunking and etc then that would be classless.

as for the game itself:

Me and my friends feel like we shouldve suited up for the second half. Not saying we are better but we definitely had more heart. Jonny and james were wiiiideeee open 95 percent of the time. take a few dribbles in and shoot..draw a foul or something. Whats the worst that could happen? It really made no sense. Thats what hurt us ALL season, NOONE able to step up and take over a game. Kyles done it but what happens when hes off? These guys play at lahaye with no fear and then get into a game situation and just play hot potato. I dont understand it, did they not want to play/win? The press couldve easily been broken with good passes but what did we do? We would take one dribble and stop and just stand there, not even trying to penetrate or we would try some terrible lob passes. There was zero intensity in the second half. It was just frustrating to watch. It was a good season and hopefully next season we will improve on our mistakes this season.

ok....all of this stuff about classless is a bit ridiculous. VMI whipped us and they can celebrate all they want. LU has some pretty classless fans too and there is an LU dean who sits on the baptist side who says stuff that is way over the top at every game for years. If you heard him you would agree. many laugh when they hear it, but if it was someone from an opposing team, im sure some here would call him classless. a newcomer on this board reading all of this complaining would think our fans are a bunch of cry babies. let's just take our medicine and move on. VMI deserved to win and to celebrate the way they want.

SuperJon wrote:And as for the game, everyone is saying Jesse Sanders and that stuff but Jesse is not the reason we lost this game.

In the second half, with VMI up 10, 15, or 20 points, anytime James Spencer, Johnny Stephene, Brolin Floyd, and at times Tyler Baker got the ball they just stood there. They were wide open. There was no one around. They wouldn't even throw up the show. At what point do you say, "Oh, hey, if we lose, we're done. Maybe I should shoot the ball." Just throw something up. For the love of God, try a shot. I know these guys shot in high school. I know they shoot in pick up games. I know they shoot in warm-ups. If no one is within ten feet of them, why not at least try a shot.

I would rather try and fail than never try at all.
I don't think they were allowed to. Which was obviously a huge blunder of repeating the same mistakes of the last game.

What makes you say they weren't allowed to? I'm just asking. To me, it seems like at that point they would be told to.

There's only one reason they wouldn't be taking shots or trying to make things happen. I mean, you'd have to fight your instinct not to at least dribble with how wide they were left open. To me this loss is totally on a poor game plan and awful shooting.

Thanks, we don't get to this "level" too often, if some act arrogant and/or rude and/or snobby, they were over-excited, I guess. I try to be gracious and cordial in victory and defeat. I totally believe in the "glass house" theroy. You'll never see me in public with an "entitlement" sign around my neck. Should we fall tomorrow, I will be a "radford fan" come March 19th or whenever......I hope others are as well.

For the most part, the preseason picks for this league were way off. Am curious to see what those pollsters say next October. 2009-10 will be even more competitive top-to-bottom. I'll say now I wouldn't be surprised if 13-5 wins the conference next season.

No one but Anthony, Seth, or Kyle was allowed to shoot within the first 20 seconds of the shot clock. This is a rule that was put into place about 6 games ago, or so.

I was concerned about some of the comments here and watched my tape of last night's game. I didn't see any hotdogging or taunting by our players; I did observe them celebrating with each other. It's our best team in 30 years--kind of tough for them to act like they've been there when they haven't.

I attended last year's big win at William and Mary and I didn't observe any gloating or salt-rubbing by any of our fans. I can't speak for all of them but I would hope none of our fans are guilty of what they've been accused. Cadets certainly aren't being taught to be arrogant or egotistical; in fact, the Administration and Corps have systems to punish unsportsmanlike conduct.

Next time you're on Post, walk the sidewalks around the Parade Field. I'll wager that you'll get greetings (and hat tips for ladies) from Cadets.

And, Liberty fans weren't all that gracious and cordial when LU crushed us in football in '07? Like some claim Duggar was 10 days ago (inserting subs too late in the game), Coach Rocco did the same thing that afternoon. Jennings and Zach Terrell were still in the game midway in the 4th period, so was the #1 O-line, with the score 66-21 or some such. We're "even"

It was just Willie Bell. I'm serious. He's the only one that was really bad about it. Everybody else was cheering and excited but Willie Bell was taking it too far.

What was he doing, Jon?

The only thing I saw him do was raise his fist to the team bench when Kenon banked in the three.

Every time out he was jumping around and all of that. The twins, Kenon, Lonon, etc were all high fiving guys, hugging them, all of that. That's fine. Willie was running around jumping around and all of that. He wouldn't even go straight to the bench. Every time out he would go towards the cadets under the basket jumping around or to the section behind the bench jumping around before he we go to the huddle. It was just annoying.

I have been to all three VMI games this year, and the VMI fans (keydets) have been great, the atmosphere in lexington was amazing, It makes me hope one day the LU student body can be that supportive, I had no problem with the excitement for the team, I thought it was great, I think Liberty fans would do the same. What I have noticed in my three games is the alumni, staff, donners, whoever they are that does, community members i suppose. Very very egotistic, very snoby, I thought that was the only bad reflection, When I went to VMI I sat with the VMI alums or staff, because I had a factured ankle, I wanted to be able to sit and see, and no one in thier section was standing, I had an LU shirt on, and when I sat the guy in front of me saw the crutches so he stood up, so then i switched seats with my friend, and so that guy did to, and he kept laughing about it, I had to go sit in the isle, then last night I had a VMI guy box me in driving out and stop in front of my car so I couldnt pull out to roll down his wondow and wave a flag, then he chucked it on my hood...These are like 55 year old men....I understand you want to celebrate, but I think they take it to far, not the students, you guys are great, but the others....

side note, DOoooooger is clasless, even all the radford fans were saying that about his time out with a few seconds letft, and he didnt just sub, he lets his players cheer for 30 seconds, then subbed, say what you want, I dont care who you are that is classless. And I have herd a few times about our football team running it up, there is a huge difference, The football selection committee puts a lot of stock into the score of games, you margin of victory, you have to understand our football team got snubbed two years in a row on selection day, we are trying to make sure that we get votes, winning by 20 and 50 in a big south game is a huge difference, if you can win by 100 in college football, you should it matters.
