The basketball players have military/cadet obligations same as rest of corp of cadets. If VMI can recruit good players (who can shoot and score), LU should be able to also. LU's talent level is barely above that of a D3 school.
For someone who claims to be a coach, you really have a remarkably narrow view of the game. Yes, recruiting to VMI is tough, and yes, Duggar has done a pretty good job there, but the idea that he has recruited talent at a much higher level than we have is not born out by the facts. They score a lot because of the style they play and the fact that they recruit players that fit that style. They have had some moderate regular season success, which has led to ZERO trips to the NCAA tournament. You seem to forget that we did actually BEAT THEM in Lexington this year, and I'm not going to take the time to look it up, but if my memory serves, we have pretty much split with them during Layer's tenure.
It's real easy to say Duggar is a great coach because he has had some modest success in a difficult situation. If he moves on to greener pastures next year, as some have speculated, we will see if he is really that good, or has benefited from low expectations.
You have dug out your old claim that we have no talent. I believe last year it was "worst in D1". That was right before we won the BSC tourney. This time it's "barely above D3". Hopefully the results are similar. It's true that our teams the last couple of years have not had a lot of athleticism, and that has been a problem against some opponents. I am hopeful that will be addressed in this year's recruiting class.
