I don't know how many stars the rating services gave Monceaux, but he was not very highly recruited despite his eye-catching numbers in HS because everybody knew the caliber of opposition he put up those numbers against.

Actually, Jeremy had a good first year at LU. He started a lot of games, made a couple of game-winning shots and was on the BSC all Freshman team. He injured his hand/wrist as a Soph, then got in RDs doghouse, and did not come back for his Junior year.

Olldflame, I thought Monceaux was getting some serious looks from both ACC & SEC schools before he suffered some type of injury during his senior year. In fact, I can't recall a more highly touted recruit that signed with LU directly after high school.

You're right about the HS injury CJ. It was his knee, and apparently he was not really the same athletically from then on. I'm sure the 4 star rating came before he was hurt, but I suspect even then it was a bit high.

Found this on Google:
Monceaux on the mend
A little thing like surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament on the right knee can really derail the recruitment of a fine player such as 6-1 point guard Jeremy Monceaux (Parkway Christian/Birmingham, Ala.).

Two summers ago, Monceaux (pronounced "Mon-So") was showing off his flashy game at the adidas/ABCD invitational camp and was named to the camp's all star game for underclassmen. Despite that, after his surgery, it was the old saying, "out of sight, out of mind," as his recruiting changed dramatically.

And, despite statistics that read 26 ppoints per game, with 10 assists a game and five steals an outing (not to mention shooting 35 percent from behind the arc and 87 percent from the free throw line), Monceaux still needs a full summer of rehabilitation to be able to perform at the level he is used to, according to his coach Dave Monceaux, who yes, happens to also be his father.

Alabama-Birmingham, Jacksonville State and Alabama seem to be the most serious, with Alabama wanting him to redshirt as a freshman. Auburn, Wisconsin, and other schools have also been following his progress.

Scout (which has him rated the #21 center in the nation) reports he now he has three formal offers with his hometown Mid-Major powerhouse Butler joining LU & Central Michigan with an offer. The fact he didn't immediately commit to Butler bodes well for our chances IMHO.

And here is a mention on him in a Scout story last week ...
Legitimate post players are hard to come by, and another 2009 player who fits that description is Andrew Smith. Smith burst onto the radar in May, and continued his solid play on Thursday. He showed a good ability to finish with either hand around the rim, and also he is a surprising athlete. As Smith gets stronger and tougher he could really help at the college level.
And it even references where his choices were at the time ...
Andrew Smith picked up a Butler offer, and says the Bulldogs along with Liberty are the two schools he is interested in.

So he's only considering us and Butler. Hopefully we can snag him.

Is there any chance we can get both of our scholly's back for next year? If we don't get either of them back we onlly have 1 scholly to offer, but it seems as though McKay is figuring we will get at least one back.

He just grew an inch to 6'9 at the top of this thread and 2 inches and 15 pounds to 6'10 and 225 in one of the posts on the link link reggie gave. It just goes to show that as a Junior in HS you really don't know yet what kind of player someone is going to be when the arrive on campus. A couple of inches and 20 or 30 pounds can be the difference between a PF and a true post player, depending on the strengths and weaknesses of his game..

Or it just shows that height/weight estimates vary wildly when athletes are involved.

I adjusted the height in this thread from old information to a size posted this summer.

I agree that the linked thread doesn't say much. And if Butler were such a slam dunk decision then don't you think he would've pulled the trigger by now?

"I'm almost definitely going to Butler," said Smith, who as an offer from Bulldogs, along with Central Michigan and Liberty, "unless something big or something crazy happens.

"I don't know what that would even be. I've pretty much told Butler I'm going on there, but I just haven't committed yet."

Smith had scholarship offers from Penn State, Ohio University (coached by former Butler aide John Groce) and Central Michigan.
No LU reference?

LU and Furman (and Iowa and ND) were all involved. I guess that was the top 3 is all.

Uh no. Liberty doesn't carry the marquee of a mighty MAC school in Indy.

Congrats to Andrew and his family. And thanks to Reggie for keeping us abreast of the commitment.

Last I checked, Butler was not in the MAC...and has had success in the NCAA tournament in recent years.
