I think its great Coach is getting some quality family time in. Usually the month of July is the busiest recruiting month of the year for MBB. He's not only getting to see much of what he's probably missed over the years...but gets the added bonus of coaching his daughter. I certainly call that landing on one's feet, even if the 2nd post was in jest.

I do believe that RD's team finished 2-2 for the tournament. I know first hand they won one game!!! Talk about weird! But it was a come from behind victory. His daughter played fairly well. She is very aggressive which helps and hurts at this stage. She def. has a good understanding of the game needs to get a little stronger as it will complement her speed and keep her from getting knocked around as much.
Also saw 2 other former LU coaches there

RD never told Matt that he couldn't play at Liberty.
Any dad that I know would love to coach his own son - particularly if his son is able to compete at the level under consideration, and Matt can. He is unbelievably athletic..

Plus, Emilee is very, very good right now, and is playing "up" a year (division).

Thank you about Matt or Thank you about E?

Matt was going to play for his dad and had some similar level D1 interest. But those scholies disappeared by the time everything went down. That happens when players don't sign early, someone else does and there goes the scholarship. Matt will excel at Cville, not two way about it.

I'm happy to hear your evaluation. Matt was out here and worked out for Dave (Biola) & Chuck (Master's) as well as for Art, if I remember correctly. I was so impressed with what I saw. From my standpoint, I expected him to be smart and a great floor general, and expected excellent passing skills, and probably shooting, but his speed and jumping ability blew me away. He can get the ball, get the ball moving upcourt, hit the open man, get to the hoop - just doing the things you want (and need) done in a spectacular way.

It should be a wonderful experience basketball-wise for him at Cedarville. I hope to be there for some of those games.

Cedarville is a great place for him even without hoops in the equation.

Yes, Sly. I was not qualifying my endorsement ("basketball-wise") of Cedarville for Matt, other than to stay on the conservative side, since I don't know much about the school. I do think a couple of real good kids from the Bangor Christian High School days went there, and did well and spoke well of the institution. Of course, time moving along as it does, that was some thirty years ago!

Cedarville has an outstanding academic reputation. They are similar to LU theologically but have chosen a different path. They are much more selective regarding enrollment and have chosen to go for prestige over size. I very nearly went to school there but I am glad things worked out the way they did for me.

They were affiliated with the GARBC for many years until recently when they were booted for being too much like Liberty (i.e. not fundy enough for them). The SBC then quickly swooped in and affiliated with Cedarville as one of their top schools north of the Mason-Dixon line.

By sheer coincidence my parents are on Cedarville's campus today visiting some of my my many family members tied to the school.

Thank you, Sly, and very interesting to read and know. One question, "Does the word 'fundy' refer to 'fundamental' by any chance?" If not, to what does it refer? (I guess that's two questions).

The GARBC is a group of Independent Fundamental Baptist churches that often make the BBF look like moderates. So in answer to your question, yeah it refers to Fundamentalist.

From time to time, I hear people say that Cedarville is LU's sister school. I was never quite sure as to the meaning of that until your comments here.

Sly, I personally would have not associated Cedarville & GARBC with "independent" & "fundamental," but my version of those 2 terms relates back to my home church in WV that was affiliated with BJU, Hyles-Anderson, & Tenn. Temple; plus, Cedarville is not represented on the FFF as a "Fundamental College," even though Liberty is listed there. But Wikipedia seems to support your view:
General Association of Regular Baptist Churches - organized in 1932 by conservative and fundamentalist churches withdrawing from the Northern Baptist Convention (now American Baptist Churches in the USA).

Frankly I am surprised that the Hyles folks that run FFF listed LU in a forum. A quarter century ago, Cedarville battled BJU, TTU and the other GARBC schools (i.e. BBC-Clark Summit, PA, Faith in Ankeny, IA, Grand Rapids Baptist, Spurgeon) for students. Under the direction of James T. Jeremiah (David's dad) they flourished and then gained major momentum when TTU alum Paul Dixon took over the school. After Jeremiah's retirement, the GARBC slowly began distancing itself until a few years ago when they dropped support altogether. WV was squarely in the regional drawing area of students for Cedarville so my guess is that you had some BJU folks on staff (even back then the Bob Jones crowd considered Cedarville liberal because of their less intense dress code).

While technically not a sister school, Cedarville certainly is a kindred spirit. But they have primarily focused on attracting Midwest students while thanks to Dr. Falwell's television influence we have had a national base.

Cedarville was the only other school I actually visited. I went there after my 10th grade year to a basketball camp. They are very much like Liberty in areas, and they are also different in other areas like sly said. Many of my friends from school went there as well.

So this still begs the question IS RD back in coaching?

Not in the context of how we usually phrase it - and not in the sense that I'm praying that he will be.
He's coaching, but he's not "back in coaching." Does that sound stupid - or what?
