I noticed that as well when I saw the spreadsheet...Id be interested to play Northern Colorado...we actually played them a few years ago if memory serves me correctly
Forget that, let's play Indiana University-Purdue University Indiananpolis! Either that or Colorado School of the Mines (a D2).
Don't hate on the Panthers. Or Colorado School of the Mines! I considered going to both of those schools.
ToTheLeft, I only picked on them because they have awesome names. :D

Phase 2 of 3 was completed successfully but Asheville almost messed up our construction plans. Liberty now sits at an RPI of 139 which is up 20 slots from when this topic was started. Unfortunately many other teams have moved up as well and hence we have not been able to leap frog over teams that have been ahead of us. We are probably the 16th or 17th best home team in the bracketbuster field with only one game left before announcement of the matchups. As long as we win against Gardner Webb we should bring a formidable foe into the Vines.

Where can I look at the RPI rankings?

Well the VCURamnation spreadsheet has been updated with final numbers before the Bracketbuster announcement tomorrow (Monday the 31st).

Looks like Delaware would be a perfect fit. Chris Lang's pick of Morehead State looks like it will be out of reach as they have moved up the RPI chart to 114.

Yeah Delaware looks like the obvious match up although depending on how heavily they weigh travel could mix things up.

I want Creighton at home;) Doesn't make a lot of sense, but would be cool to play them.

How is that lame? They are a higher rated RPI team and we're on ESPNU! Only 11 games are selected for Tv. That's all we could ask for.

Their record sucks. Wanted a higher profile opponent. I mean I'm glad that we'll be on espnu. Sounds like a winnable game!

I think he was expecting a somewhat "bigger name" team...

Looking at their statistics they have 9 players that have appeared in 20 or more games so far. Their leading scorer is Mike Glover at 19.4/game and he's also their leading rebounder. Their top three point shooter is Sean Armand at just under 41%. They do not shoot well at the free throw line as a team as no one on the roster with at least 50 attempts is shooting better than 75% from the line so far.

....If their record sucks, why do they have an RPI that is far better than Delaware, Creighton, Morehead State, or Austin Peay (or maybe in your mind RPI doesn't matter)? Maybe Iona isn't as good as VCU, ODU, or Drexel, but Iona has a solid team. I'm more interested in learning how the Flames measure up against the "good" teams. Playing NC State (or another high profile team) doesn't matter if they suck.

their record is 13-9 overall and 7-4 in conference... Forgive me for assuming their RPI wasn't very high...

Their RPI is 104. We're around 140. Can't ask for much better than that.

This will be a good game for us next year too. They only have 2 SRs (1 that plays) and neither are big contributors. They should be a definite top 100 and maybe top 50 team next year.

I think this is almost a perfect game for us. It's a game on ESPNU we can win if we play good. The only way this could be better is if it was a night game.

Wow!!! I still can not believe we got one of the 11 games being televised on ESPNs family of networks. Conference record definitely must have something to do with how they choose who goes on TV. I wonder if Liberty having Evan Gordon younger brother of Eric Gordon was cause for TV footage as well. Just so you know Iona is tied for 3rd in the MAAC and is 2.5 games back of 1st place leader Fairfield. ESPN also wanted different representatives from other conferences.

Below are all the Big South Bracketbuster games with the home teams being represented to the right.

RPI 104 Iona Metro Atlantic vs Liberty Big South RPI 139 ESPNU

RPI 202 Davidson SOCON vs. Presbyterian Big South RPI 160
RPI 235 Charleston So. Big South vs. UNC-Wilmington Colonial RPI 166
RPI 178 Ohio MAC vs. Winthrop Big South RPI 185
RPI 173 Northeastern Colonial vs. UNC-Asheville Big South RPI 170
RPI 243 VMI Big South vs. Morgan State MEAC RPI 229
RPI 282 Gardner-Webb Big SOuth vs. Tennessee Tech OVC RPI 245
RPI 231 Appalachian State SOCON vs. High Point Big South RPI 256
RPI 318 Radford Big South vs. William & Mary Colonial RPI 265

Wasn't it Iona that disbanded their football team a couple years ago and left us scrambling to fill with a D2 game for football. A small added incentive for us to win this game. Beating Richmond is a pretty good accomplishment and so is a 6 pt loss to Syracuse. Could be a tougher game than some of you guys are expecting.
