There is no reason to think we don't come away with a win. But CCU is not so much better than us that we have to expect to shoot 75-85% from the field to beat them (as FFG was saying). If we ever shot that well I would be shocked if we didn't win by 20+.
Ok so to review Winthrop is the reigning BS champs. If by undefeated you mean in conference then that's great but we are too. Shouldn't we "expect to win" or is that a slogan reserved only for football now?
Ok so to review Coastal Carolina is the reigning BS regualar season champs (we currently happen to be playing the regular season so this is the most likely comparison that I would be drawing upon). And to be clear CCU is undefeated in the BSC as is LU. That being said how again do you argue that LU should be the favorite?

Also I have a gut feeling that LU will take this one at home but that doesn't mean they are or should be the favorite to win  I've been known to be partial to one of the teams playing.
Touche. Seemed to forget that part. I don't feel as though we should necessarily be the favorites just that the margin between us is minimal.

This is sort of what I was trying to relay early. I think that we're both good teams and that the regular season should be a close race. BUT, they are the exact type of team that we are going to have a lot of problems with. So far, to this point in conference play LU has been winning playing defense. We have been VERY good at not letting guards get good shots or get any penetration. However, we haven't really matched up with a front court like theirs and I think it's going to give us a lot of problems. Very similar to how LU used to be a match up nightmare for the way VMI plays. We weren't necessarily better than them in the Big South, but head to head we were built to beat them. We've seen similar height and athleticism but not really the talent. I think it's going to require a fairly constant rotation of our bigs and we really haven't been playing too deep in that area. McMasters and Burrus would really have to step it up.

I guess the moral of that story is, VMI finally did beat us head to head that year by out coaching/smarting.

This was also the point I was trying to make. I just don't think we are built to match up well with them. That coupled with our uncanny ability to produce a ridiculous amount turnovers on any given night makes it difficult for me to see us winning. Also something from the Chuck south game you won't see us doing against coastal is Jesse scoring in the paint. chuck south's bigs didn't play very good D at all in the paint from what I saw and i can bet that Coastal won't have that problem.

For us, I think it hinges on how well Mike Holmes plays (I don't think anyone in the Big South can guard him. He is a man beast.) Chad Gray, and our guard play. If our guards are as aggressive as they were last night, I don't think anyone can touch us. We out ran VMI up and down the court for about 3/4 of the game.

I love that you had to out run a team that prepares and trains to run for 40 minutes straight, 2 days before playing us. All on the road. If the students were back, it would be the perfect storm.

I think it is just all going to come down to one thing... Incentives.

How much does Liberty value this game... and at the same time... How much MORE is Cliff Ellis going to pay his players for a great performance on the road against a 5-0 team...

Unfortunately, the whole "Cheaters Never Win" doesn't apply to Coastal.

The way we play defense and rebound we can beat anyone. I fully expect us to play superb defense on Saturday.

I'm expecting to win.

He may have coached at Auburn but he definitely coached at Clemson where he was fairly successful. CCU has the right balance in inside (height) and outside play (quickness) - they'll be hard to beat. I like the home court ( and home cooking - the ROT) advantage :D

Are you implying you are going to give food poisoning to Coastal's players. Talk about cheat you are taking it to the next level.

By the way, cheap plug - You can get 4 premium seats and a Liberty Flames Lunchbag/cooler for only $20 for tomorrow's Coastal game if you go to https://www.ticketreturn.com/prod2/Buy. ... ntID=61458 - type "BEAT" (ALL CAPS) in the special promotional code box.

Students are not back. I doubt we will have more than 2500.
There will be no students on campus except RA's and a few transfer/new students. I would have made the trip up to watch the game but I had my wisdom teeth out so I guess I will have to wait to watch them in HP and then against VMI when I come back to campus.
On another note does anyone know if ESPN3 will be picking up this game or anywhere else to watch a live stream online? Or is it just radio?

Chauncy is such an idiot. CCU could not get their fans to come to the LU football game and they were nu on break. I mean the crowd I went with down there on a bus was bigger than their entire student section.

We're 5-0 in conference and Coach Layer has yet to tap into the unlimited potential of 6'11" Carter McMasters. Maybe Coach is saving him for the BIG game.

And the funny thing is, with the people we will get on Saturday, not all of them would even fit inside the CCU SuperDome!!!! (capacity, 1100)

I kind of have to disagree. Carter is good defensively but offensively he hasn't done much but get called for moving screens.
