I'm more confident players won't leave now than I would've been had he stayed.

Yes, Martin and Bradshaw won't be easy to replace, but there's still alot of talent there, and it isn't like Marshall couldn't win before they got there...
paradox wrote:The point was that WU didn't win on the national level until Martin and Bradshaw. Sure, they could win and even dominate a very weak conference prior to their arrival. Now, WU is without Martin/Bradshaw and LU has taken a major step up with a coaching staff that promises to be as good as WU's at the very least. He may turn into "Greg Who" afterall.Didn't win on a national level? Don't tell that to the many BCS conference teams he beat without Bradshaw, Martin or any of the current players.

He was very proud of him as a recruit

The guy was fired because the fans at New Mexico think their program is a lot better than it really is. That's garbage?

It's possible that some programs are turned off by his inertia about leaving Winthrop. It's puzzling to say the least.Realist wrote:Garbage may have been a little strong, however, the guy was fired. OK so when Marshall takes a TRUE mid major program or even a major and fails....he's now garbage?
Fumblerooskies wrote:Why would he NOT pass on S. Florida...There is a ton of basketball talent in the deep south and kids from the northeast don't mind going to school down in Florida. The USF program is up and coming. The USF administration is committed to winning in both football and basketball and this would have been a great opportunity for Marshall. Unless he somehow emerges as a canidate for the Arkansas job, which is highly doubtful, then Marshall made a huge career mistake. He will never be hotter than he is right now. And don't be surprised if Marshall is being labled by some AD's after turning down nearly one million dollars a year to coach in the Big East. Ironically enough, South Florida's big win this year was against a ranked Notre Dame team, which also happens to be the biggest feather in Greg Marshall's cap.
...the southern schools in the Big East (Miami and VT) never did well in basketball...my theory is the southern guys did not want to play in a conference where family and friends would not get to travel...so they lost out on some good recruits. I don't see USF ever doing anything in the Big East other than being bottom feeders.
