CCU has some depth, and appears to have adjusted well since Holmes' dismissal. Oh, by the way they are 11-0 and have won 18 straight overall. The final score of our game at the Vines was close, but that was only after we hit a flurry of 3s down the stretch to narrow what was a fairly comfortable lead by the chickens. We have had 2 knockdown dragout fights with UNCA, but the bottom line is, we beat them, and I place absolutely no stock in the "it's really hard to beat a team 3 times" theory. It's not born out by the facts, and it quite frankly doesn't make sense anyway.
2005-Swept CSU regular season, first round home game in conference tourney and we lose to CSU.
2007-Swept VMI regular season, first round home game loss in conference tourney to VMI

Those were the last two seasons we played a team 3 times and won the first two meetings. While anything can happen on any given night, the evidence does suggest it is hard to beat a team 3 times.

How about an example that went the other way around?

2010-got swept by WU in regular season, lost in conference tourney 1st round to WU

And you just have to go back a little further back from your examples to find when LU did get three wins over somebody.

2004 - swept CSU and HPU in regular season and beat CSU in the 1st round, and HPU in the championship game.
2003 - swept CCU in the regular season and beat them in the 1st round.

So that's 4 cases where the team that swept the regular season also won the third game (and that just is looking at LU back to 2003).

The easiest way to beat a team 3 times in a season is to make sure that in the 3rd game you score more points than they do. :D

Exactly.

The better team wins the game. If you play better than the other team, and score more points, you win.

Yeah, shooting under 50% from the FT line and losing to a really bad RU team will do that. Rough couple of games for WU this week.
Yeah but I just don’t see Peele as being on the hot seat though. 2 trips to the Dance in 4 years is not bad. And that’s IF you don’t make it this year.
I agree with you. Sure, some our fans are really angry about the condition of the program right now, but they also levied some unrealistic expectations on the team. I believe Peele's contract runs out after next year and I think he's earned the right to stay on and fix the problems without getting the axe after this season. If the program is in a similar position (or worse) when his contract does run out, then it might be time to think about the next coach.

I know it's a few weeks later...and I'm assuming you're talking about me because I did come on here and call Holmes a head case. But I resent that! I am in no way, shape, or form a Clemson fan. :P Talk about an insult worse than being, say, a CCU fan

With LU winning tonight, its pretty much a race for the last two home game slots in the first round between WU, UNCA, CSU and maybe HPU

For us to have any shot at getting out of the 8 hole, we need to beat UNCA here next Saturday, a late 8 pm tip on MASN....yep, put two teams on MASN when MASN isn't available on any cable system west of Charlotte...brilliant!

If Liberty beats Radford on Thursday, Winthrop is the only team left that can catch LU for second, and that's only if the Eagles win out and the Flames lose out (WU would win the tiebreaker because it would have to beat Coastal to win out).

If Liberty wins both games at home next week, the Flames clinch second.

The scenarios for any team catching us for second are getting pretty far-fetched. WU just lost to RADFORD. For them to win out would be a turnaround of epic proportions. Add to that the fact that we haven't lost to anyone not named after a chicken from the Canterbury Tales yet and we just beat CSU in their cracker-dome, which nobody else has been able to do all year, and it's even a bigger stretch IMHO that we aren't going to win more than 1 of these last 5.

While both are highly implausable, I would say it's more likely we get the first seed than the 3rd.

I accidentally reversed HPU's record but basically its a 4 team race for the last two home games in the first round (CCU and LU are locks for home games in the first round).

Not that it really matters... but the current order of the teams with 7-6 records is:

UNCA
CSU
WU

A Winthrop win would be a huge help for us if we were to get the win over HPU tonight...because that would create ONLY a 1 game separation between us and CCU with three to play (and the Chants have to go to the Buc Dome I think). We basically have to win out and hope CCU loses one other game (if they lost tonight and at CSU)
