Right, mostly commerical and when they do fly private its not on a Cessna Skyhawk, was my point.

When it gets to the stage that they are bringing someone to campus I'm pretty sure it won't be via US Airlines. It just doesn't have as much wow factor as flying private and we are going for wow!

Ok. Let's stop the cryptic half posts. Since I don't work for Mercer or Liberty I'm just going to lay it out there:

Bob Hoffman's in town. He's our #1 guy. If he wants the job, it's his. It all comes down to money and whether or not he can bring Jason Eaker with him.

Well! Looks like a slim chance was all JB needed. Hope he can close the deal and schedule a presser

I know JB really likes Eaker, so much so that he lobbied for Layer to retain him. I'm sure terminating him was painful for everyone concerned. I have a feeling as long as Jason can document that he has put the issues which led to his dismissal behind him, LU will be happy to have him back. Speaks pretty highly for his coaching ability that Hoffman would actually make it a deal-breaker if we wouldn't take him.

I would hope Liberty would bring him back. He's a guy who made a mistake. We all know how much of a jerk addiction is. It makes you do things you wouldn't otherwise do. Jason accepted his penalty and paid it. We're a school of second chances. I see no reason not to allow him back.

Eaker had to be let go at the time, Liberty really had no other choice but from all I have seen he has grown from this and is a better person. If he has truly changed for the better I have no problem welcoming him back.

EDIT

Jon beat me to it

I like Hoffman.

I just have a hard time believing that he'll leave Mercer to come here. For one, he's likely 1-2 seasons away from receiving some much better offers. I would imagine that any coach who is almost 60, and has an opportunity to coach at a high level, wouldn't do anything to jeopardize that opportunity. Even though he would be an immediate improvement from Layer, we just do not have the roster to win a bunch of games next year. He's going to have to settle for at least one, if not two, 15 win seasons before we're even competitive. Mercer on the other hand could be 1-2 seasons away from another 20 win season and a tournament birth.

I don't have any inside information. I don't know Hoffman or anything. So, I'm not going to be shocked if it does happen. I'll just be a little surprised that an older coach with potential would be willing to make a lateral move. The only way that makes sense is if JB feels very secure about our chances to move into a bigger conference and can sell that future as a step up from Mercer.

Hoffman coming her would not be a lateral move, it would be somewhat of a step-down. He has more to lose by coming here than gaining anything, besides more money. He has established a competitive mid-major program with a great win in the postseason against Duke. He is better off staying at Mercer and continuing to build off his success in the program. He seems like a great person with a great track record and I would love to have him at LU. Looking forward to great hire from JB either way in order to make us relevant in college sports, especially since we want to be FBS Ready.

Its not a lateral move when it comes to facilities, and $$. trust me when I say this. It is INCREDIBLE to see what Hoffman has done at Mercer with the resources he has.

Its all about the money.

This is fluid. Our inside source went from . ZERO chance, to SLIM chance, to Its his job if he wants it and we will hire back Eaker.

Would Mrs Eacker get her job back?
I like them both but I'm not a 're hire' guy

I'm sure it is but consider this: If he takes the Liberty job, where is he in two years? Liberty. If he stays at Mercer, where could he be in two years? MVC, A-10, C-USA, American...etc. I love Liberty but where has that money and facilities gotten us in the past several years?

If you have the inside source, I'll trust you. I just don't understand how anyone who has that much potential, but not many years left, would be gung-ho about a school with little basketball history in the Big South.
