Got anything to back that up?

I am also of the understanding that Lutz is not in consideration now. Yes, there are a few names that haven't been mentioned. The big one is David Grace. If I were to guess, I'd bet Manson has his name by now.

The sources that were telling me that we were looking in the worng direction indicated that we were wasting our time talking about Lutz. Grace would certainly be a new name.

And to everyone sending me texts & messages asking me about Rick Barnes, I don't see it happening. He's a believer and would a be an obvious gamechanger. But I see him having a slew of high major opportunities.

And by all indications, Meyer is very much a candidate at this point.

Military Vet with 6 kids, and a PHENOMINAL recruiter. Grace sounds like the perfect fit at LU!!

I like what I know about Grace. However, he hasn't been a head coach at the D1 level. That has to be a negative, but he seems to be an awfully hard worker and has a lot of passion for the game.

Interesting that McKay's name hasn't been linked to any of the job openings so far............ that I know of. Don't know if that is significant or not. I would not be terribly upset if he or Meyer were to get the job, but I believe a fresh face would be best for the university.

There are two names that haven't been mentioned by anyone at all that are very much in the mix. I can't go with anonymous sources and everything I've been told is deep off the record, so I won't betray those confidences. Barber has definitely been on the interview trail this weekend, that much I can confirm.

I have no idea if he's a believer but one name that popped into my name earlier is Steve Robinson. He's from Roanoke and played at RatFurd. No info, just tossing out a possibility.

I think it's cool that Barber is talking to folks we don't know about yet, means he's looking for a lot of options.

Not that I can share here, but have I ever been wrong?

Meyer still in the mix.
Grace has been in the mix for a while, and still is.
Still a few more high major assistants in the mix. Big 12, Big 10, SEC
....and more.

Just the tip of the iceberg and in no particular order.

Interesting Article on Grace: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the ... ncaab.html
"David has been tremendous," Alford said. "I've been fortunate in my 23 years to not just hire people who understand basketball but who are also really good people, and that's what David is. He's a great guy and he's a tireless worker. He's always on the phone calling or texting recruits. Our first class is shaping up to be a top recruiting class, and he has played a big part in that."
"He loves when people say he can't do something," said Etop Udo-Ema, founder of the Compton Magic AAU program and a good friend of Grace's. "There's a lot of people who didn't think he could get stuff done at UCLA, and that just made him sick to his stomach. He's non-stop. I don't even know what kind of hours he logs, but I would bet he's on the phone by 5 or 6 in the morning and he won't stop until after midnight or 1 a.m."

Well, I probably shouldn't say, but I did have an interview. It wasn't for this job.

He does have an interesting/different background as a 20 year Air Force vet, and has done a lot in coaching in only 11 years, although he has only been a HC at the HS and AAU level.

I don't know about this guy. It worries me that he and Layer appear to use the same hair stylist.

You're confusing Alford for Grace in that accompanying photo. It wasn't the best photo to use for that story.

Not saying that this has anything to do with the coaching search, but meeting active coaches at resorts is a pretty common procedure. It avoids potentially bad optics for the candidate.

Shaka Smart is right alongside Ole Purple Face as the two contenders for the Texas gig. If Shaka heads to the Horns, you could understand why Wade might be very interested in a return to Richmond.
