Better to be the best of all the teams that suck then to be in the middle of the pack.
absolutely but this is unwatchable
Not if you're a WU fan.

Randy Peele is about to get 2 championships in 3 seasons. Man these Winthrop guys on our board are going to be unbearable for another few years over this one

wow. 28-5 and they choke in the championship game. I'd be so mad. At least they already secured their NIT bid

I know it's not horseshoes or hand grenades, but for what it's worth, we played WU tougher in Rock Hill than either Radford or CCU did in Conway.

And half of the Winthropfans board wanted him fired midway through this season...but he now has more Big South championships than the rest of the coaches in the league combined.

once wu made it to the championship game i had a feeling that might pull it out...but i did not want it to be...only because realist has made me hate wu so much....if it weren't for him and his ridiculous posts I wouldn't of even cared who won this game...

but congrats to WU...maybe that program you have over there is better then I have thought in the past

Isn't playing the BSC championship in a 1,000 seat arena on national TV embarrassing to KK? What is now called Schilling held more people than that when it opened on LBC's campus around 1978. :oldhag

They probably will be, although they are losing both ManRob and Beuchert, while Asheville has everyone back except Sean Smith. CCU will obviously miss Harris, but they will be good too.

Winthrop has plenty of weapons back including Middleton who looks to be the next great PG of the conference

No doubt, and they may actually be a better offensive team next year, but they won with defense this year, and they are losing one great defender and another very good one.

+1

As for KK and the arena looking bad...I am laughing at the SOCON....they bend over backwards to accomodate Davidson and little Steph coming back to Charlotte, and Davidson craps out in the first round. They've played the first two rounds in Bojangles Coliseum to half-full capacity, now they move the semis and final to a building twice as big at TWC arena....talk about looking empty on national TV....let WCU and Appy both not make the final Monday at it will really be empty.

Anyway, maybe WU matches up with a slow-down ugly Big Least team in the first round and gives them a scare.....

Neither of those two have had the largest fan contingents in the SoCon Tourney thus far...

We had more people at the Chesapeake Middle School League championship game this year (1,300+) than were at this joke of a game. MIDDLE SCHOOL!
Yes, the chickens had a better team than us this year, but give me a break! Do some car washes or gift card sales and raise money for a real stadium...or even a real GYM. That place is pathetic.

Go to "Cracker Box Palaces," featuring the CSU fieldhouse, CCU's Kimbel Arena and the Justice Center, making UNC-Asheville the "third member of the Big South to have a not-so-big arena." Absolutely embarassing article for the entire league.
I guess I just don't get embarrassed easily...IF I was a CSU, CCU, or UNCA supporter, maybe I would be embarrassed by that, but as WU fan, I'm very happy with the facility my team plays in, and to me, those small places reflect poorly on those schools, not Winthrop.

CCU looked and played tight., thye should have been up 6 or 8 at half time. Cliff had a look on his face like 'he didn't know what to do' -- the pressure got to CCU just like it got to UNCA 2 years ago when Winthrop won it.

Yall's infatuation with the size of other gyms in the league is really intriguing. Why do you care so much?

I know in this situation that it should be UNCA with the little man syndrome, but are you guys that insecure about your athletic program that you have to develop this false sense of entitlement / superiority just because you have a larger venue? Can your dad beat up our dad as well?

Bragging rights should be won on the court. If the only thing you can blast us about is the size of our gym... well then we must be in pretty good shape. But no worries.. because in two years we will join the rest of the Big South in having a 1/3 filled arena for most of our conference games. But at least we will be able to talk smack about Coastal and Charleston now!! Which is apparently all that matters in the grand scheme of Big South basketball.

Records, championships, head to head matchups..... toss that stuff aside. How many people could theoretically watch a game in your arena? That's all I care about!

I could care less about how it makes the league look...I just like making fun of the fact that DI schools play in gyms that most high school's would find embarrassing

I would respond by making fun of the fact that in 2009-2010 Liberty got swept by two of the teams that play in a gym that most high schools would find embarrassing.

Yeah, this is one point that LU fans cry about that has really, really gotten old. The arena crap is worse than the RD vs. RMK vs. Jeff Barber stuff.

CCU fans don't come on here every couple of weeks and make fun of our 30 bleacher baseball stadium.

High Point doesn't make fun of our inferior Soccer Stadium.

Why do we feel the need to tower over everyone because we have the Vines? The other schools in the conference don't have close to the same budget and resources that we do, nor do they have the same vision we do. Does CSU have a ski slope? Does UNCA have an ice rink with a pro shop?

You show me one kid who turns down WU or LU because of UNCA's gym, and I'll show you a kid who came to LU for the mission of the school and the campus, or who went to WU for the tradition and the campus. I've never been recruited, but I really can't see OTHER TEAMS' gyms being that big of an issue. And if it is for a certain kid, is that the kind of kid we want?

And despite their small gym, UNCA has gotten players that have whipped us for the past few years. Despite their small gym, CCU has landed one of the best post players in the conference history in Joe Harris, and one of the best guards in Jack Leasure. Despite their small gym, CSU has Jamarco Warren who is a real talent. Despite their small gym, Presby is going to be one of the best teams in the Big South next year. Despite their BIG gym, Radford will be in the bottom half next year, and has been to the dance once in recent memory thanks to the most dominant post player to come thru the BSC in a while. Despite their BIG gym, LU has won ONE Big South ring in the last 15 years.

Give it up, LU fans. We're blessed with a big gym, lets get a winning team, fill the gym, and dominate the conference before we cry about CCU like their an ankle bracelet that keeps us stuck in one spot. They beat us regularly, let's consider that before we snipe at their gym...
