It didn't get in his head. He had 25 and 13 on us. Art talking back is simply Art being Art. He likes to run his mouth. It's the type of player he is. You have to know what type of player you're going against. I'm not dissing the chant because you guys can do what you want to do and that's completely your call, but the USA stuff fuels Art and Lazir because they hear it everywhere. Conversely, Amir's a hot head and anything can get him and his terrible jump shot out of whack. He's heard "convict" everywhere probably but he's so unstable that anything makes him tick.

What a game. It was a tough loss but as Coach Layer stated in the post-game interview, this team will rebound. They are getting better every game and the future looks very bright. There were a few questionable calls but that's the way it is sometimes. I was pretty disappointed in the LUnatics when the did the "Hey, you suck" chant. Very tasteless and this is coming from a guy who watched Maryland basketball. The next three games are huge and I look forward to how the team responds. Also, props to HMO and his dad. They really laid into the refs last night. :D

Did he even steal a laptop? I thought he stole a playstation and a bunch of games. The "you suck" chant to Rock and Roll part 2 is so much fun it's hard to get people to stop (other than not playing that song). I did it when I was a student but I understand why people don't like it. But I think everyone can agree that the term "suck" universally means "not good" and not what ever sexual undertones that it most likely originated from. Just like if we changed it to "stink" we're not talking about the players' hygiene.

I had a feeling we were in trouble early in the second half when Laz got the ball just over half court and headed straight to the hole like a raging bull, bowled over 2 of our players as he missed the shot (no call) and then stuck in the putback while our guys were laying on the floor. I actually thought there was an error when I looked at the scoreboard with over 16 minutes left in the half and saw 7 fouls for us to 0 for them. They were basically in the bonus the entire second half.

We hurt ourselves at the line, but RU actually shot FTs poorly too, or they would have pulled away earlier. They just had a lot more opportunities.

the "you suck" chant was not from us, and the 2 people on the end of our group that did it got told to shut up and it was not necessary, though from what i heard they were not directing it at the players but at the refs

USA was the only chant that got in Art's head... Art actually talked back to us when we started chanting USA, so if its not classy then i apologize but it was effective....

also what else was said that was wrong?? please tell me so it can be corrected

we chanted convict, wheres my laptop, and other things along that line at Amir

we sang the russian national anthem at Art

other then that the only thing i can see that was rude is the fact that we yelled at the refs a lot
You guys are great!

1. You have a foreign born player. From the Ivory Coast. So not sure why you would taunt Big Art and Laz. Oh wait I know why, because you don't know where your own players are from.

2. Art if from Belarus. Here is a little tid bit for you.

Belarus became an independent country in 1991 after declaring itself free from the Soviet Union.

So not sure why your are singing the Russian National anthem.

I love college basketball rivalries and I think the LU RU one is a good one. But at least know what you are talking about. Your uneducated chants only make you look foolish.

We really do need to have our facts straight if we are going to "go personal". I didn't hear some of the chants from where I was (higher up on the student side). Not sure if I would recognize the Russian national anthem if I heard it, but I do know that Art is from Belarus and Laz is from Serbia.

You don't have to be a freaking rocket scientist to taunt somebody. Nobody cares about the history of Belarus. I'm sure he knows what they were singing and I would imagine that would annoy him even more, whether it was intentional or out of ignorance. Just relax and let them heckle. You don't need to pars it like they're trying to outdo shakespeare

Andrew, cmon man, you give a bad representation of what we do sometimes.

First, we were singing the SOVIET national anthem, as sung by the Red Army. Classless? Sure! This is Radford, not North Greenville. I'm giving them my best shot.

The USA! chant was more of a superstition thing. Art missed a free throw while one LUnatic was chanting USA, and when something works, I like to keep doing it, out of superstition. Yes, Pat is from Africa. Chris is from the Domincan. We have two foregin born players. It wasn't some offensive chant, it was just a "what works" sort of deal. And they had fun with it, those two guys aren't gonna get butthurt because some fat white rednecks were chanting USA at them.

The "You Suck" chant is hardly the LUnatics doing. Anyone who went to high school sporting events sang it that way, and they have no reason to stop now, since hardly anyone knows the actual rules of the sporting events. There were a couple LUnatics doing that "you suck" stuff, but it was to the Refs, not Radford. That doesn't make it right, but I'm sure you guys were thinking the same things.

Convict is a classic chant, it's been done many times by many teams. Classless? I guess. But it is what HE IS. If we chanted "thug" or something like that, that's one thing. But he is a CONVICTED individual. He was convicted of a crime. If someone shoots an airball, you remind them of it. He was convicted of a crime, and so, we reminded him. And so what if he didn't steal a laptop! "Where's my Playstation 3 and other assorted electronics" doesn't fit in the chant. We yapped at Amir, and it works to an extent because he's an emotional guy.

Don't know what we did that was "uneducated". We were just having fun. And we were a lot more classy than we could have been. We have PLENTY of jokes for Lynch-Flour, but we were asked by his step brother or half brother the last time you guys were here to refrain from such jokes, and since he did it respectfully, we do so. We didn't even say a word to him, so credit where credit is due to the LUnatics for that.

Good post. Whether people agree with what was said or not, now they know why it was said straight from the horse's mouth.

The only thing I don't like, and I've told these people this personally before, is people in The LUnatics saying you suck. The LUnatics know the rules and should follow them. Most of the group does. When one or two people don't follow the rules, it gives the entire group a bad impression.

I know. But they played Rock and Roll Part Two in a time out after the 8th team foul on LU when Radford had 0. Or another situation like that. So I knew I couldn't stop my fellow LUnatics, no matter how hard I tried. So I turned around so people didn't think I was saying it, and that's all I could do.

And a Radford student drove past us on the way out, as we were walking to the car, and yelled "Nice a**". If we're crying about fans being stupid, Radford still wins. They yelled "d-----" at one of our players during a free throw, and commented on my rear end on the drive home. Not only are they classless, but... well, nevermind.

the major one doing the 'you suck' chant lets everyone know that he hates that rule at liberty and makes his view on it abundantly clear (though that isnt to say its right)... there is no way to correct it other then all of us saying dont do it and him getting ticked off at all of us....

all TTL made good points about the Radford fans afterward

though i do have to admit there were some Liberty fans that instigated stuff with the Radford fans... during a Radford free throw i saw a pom pom being thrown by a Liberty fan into the Radford fans section... that is classes, that is inexcusable.... when you resort to violence towards other fans you have taken it to far... even yelling at opposing fans is taking it to far IMO

and TTL sorry i said Russian national anthem... U.S.S.R. and Russia carry the same connotation in my mind, but i should have clarified

From watching ESPN 360

2nd half

1st foul = tough to really see
2nd foul = legit
3rd foul = obvious
4th foul = repeat call of the previous 3 fouls
5th foul = anderson repeating the 3rd foul
(so, the first 5 fouls are all of what fans would call "reaching in")
6th foul = obvious, hitting the shooting arm
7th foul = holding, arm wrapped around the back

I think the problem that most people had, or at least those who know the game of basketball, is that those fouls were not being called in the first half. The players were able to play physical in the first half and then all of these were being called in the second half. Also, nothing was being called on Radford at all. I never had a problem or disagreement that they were actually fouls, just in the way they were enforcing them.

How Greenberg gets away with publicly criticizing the officials and trying to intimidate them is beyond me.

It could have been that in the first half, the refs were trying to talk the guys out of it. Then, during the half said, "we've told them. if they keep doing it this half, bang 'em."

Then that gets to the second point of calling it on us and letting Radford get away with some stuff that was blatant. It was only about a five minute span that they did that and eventually got it back under control, but there was a stretch where it was all against us. I rarely ever mention the officiating but that got me questioning it.

i was never questioning the fouls being called, i was questioning why the fouls were not being called on both ends... i know some stuff goes on that we don't hear so maybe the refs were getting back talk from some of our players and that made them call it more for radford, i dont know though....

i do know it was very lopsided for awhile when both ends their were clear fouls

BWall, the issue wasn't that we were getting called for fouls I felt weren't legit. By the rules, there should have been 60 fouls in that game. It's CONSISTENCY. You're a ref, and you'll never see it from the view of a fan, and likewise I won't see it thru your eyes, but when JLF shoves Kyle, and Trufunovic shoves Jesse, and there's a no call, about 10 times that happened, and on the other end, the whistle comes out for some calls that either could go either way, or are less obvious/violent than the fouls being called on the other end. The point isnt that they had 8 and we had zero and that's unfair, it's that they got 8 fouls, and we didnt get the same 8 fould when they happened to us. Not to mention the MANY MANY missed travels, most notably when Amir tripped on his own, fell, slid with the ball on the floor, and then ROLLED OVER ON THE FLOOR so that, when Chris went for the ball he would be fouling him. He traveled twice in three seconds, neither was called, and they called a foul on Chris.

THAT's what ridiculous, and it happened all night. If you wanna show off how smart you are with the rule book and tell me what a foul is, go ahead. I know what a foul is, too. Many times last night the crowd booed and I just shook my head, because we got the call we deserved. The point is CONSISTENCY. And those refs DEFINITELY lacked it. Not to mention there was a call that they took straight from Greenburg's mouth, and a couple calls missed because they catered to Greenburg's crying on the sideline, and didn't watch the play. Refs are there to make the game fair, and all they did was make it more tilted towards Radford all night. One key moment was the 4th personal on Carter, an "illegal screen". Jeremy was coming off a screen to the top of the key while being held, with both hands, and fights around the screen, he manages to get around as Carter steps further out into the screen to get JA's man off of him, and is called for the moving screen. Did CMac commit a foul? Yes, he did, he stepped into a screen. But it was after another blantant foul by a Radford defender, one that was missed and was the direct cause of Carter's foul. Not to mention the illegal screening is never called fairly, it's one of those calls they pull out randomly, especially last night.

Oh, and three seconds in the lane. That's all I have to say about that.

I know you're a ref and would defend refs in most cases, but you have to admit that the consistency was terrible. All the fouls you commented on, you're absolutely right! But when they mug us on the other end and there's no call, and they can do the crab-dribble shuffle on every play and never get a traveling call, that's when it gets unfair.

One other example:

Dale asks them to check the replay to see if a shot is a three or a two. They charge him a timeout for the stoppage of play.

Greenburg asks them to check and see if someone was behind the line when being fouled in the act. No timeout is charged.
