After last year, and having two seniors on the bench, it is obvious that these guys are winners. They have surprised me- pleasantly, of course.

65 points from Freshmen tonight.

Jesse had 15 rebounds

Besides his 20 points and 13 boards, Antwan led us with 6 assists to 1 turnover and blocked a shot.

I was at teh game with a friend of mine and every time he would talk about how VMI couldnt rally Id tell him that VMI is never out of a game and I kept waiting for the big run that never came tonight...the guys would respond every time VMI threw their best punch.

Konan and Burrus combined to give us a night like Alex would have had, and then some. They have no defense, and we held them in check really well except for Gabriel's little 9 point streak. David Minaya with a great game, Pat Konan with a great game, Jesse was incredible, and Jeremy shook off a bad shooting night to nail a dagger of a three. Good night from Evan in terms of getting to the rim and taking what the D gave him.

Some of Evan Gordon's shot remind me of Larry Blair. Not on the decision-making process, but just the athletic ability of the guy. If he could cut down on the traveling, he will become just as good just as fast.

You have a fine freshmen class, and dominated that bunch who wore red tonight. Only Gabriel came to play, and that's a shame :dontgetit . Game should have gone down to the wire. Sparks has been playing like a 13-year old out there, and Kenon can't buy a basket in any arena.

LU still in the middle of the fight for a home game on March 2nd.........we hope to play anyone on March 2nd. LU should be a top-3 preseason pick for 2011.

Konan, Burrus, and McMaster’s development have been the key to the season thus far. Where those guys are today compared to where they were in November is night and day. I can only imagine that VanderPol has made a similar progression this year and should be ready to go by next season. Add him and Baird to the 3 we already have and I think it’s safe to say that we would have the best assembly of 5 post guys LU has EVER had. And the great thing is they will all be freshman and sophs next season. This has to be attributed to Layer and his staff. :clapping

Does anyone question wither we are getting every ounce out of these guys? Coach Layer would be Coach of the Year if voted today

Lang had a great article about the game:
Flames’ Burrus bullies the Keydets
By Chris Lang
...Fresh after Saturday’s inactivity, Burrus was more than up to the mandate.

“Oh yeah,” he said. “I was ready to play again.”

So it seems. Twenty points and 13 rebounds later, the freshman had a career night and was the key cog in Liberty’s 91-73 victory over the Keydets.

“It was the difference in the game,” Liberty coach Dale Layer said. “He allowed us to get second shots. When they get a stop and can run it down your throat, you’re in trouble. But if you miss a shot, somebody gets a rebounds and puts it back, it’s back-breaking at times.”
