The Big South changed up the schedule for this year. In the past, most conference games were on Saturday/Tuesday. This year, they're moving to Thursday/Saturday.

Are you saying that they do what ever we tell them to?

I don't know. Seems hall meeting related.

I like that a lot better. Just seems more logical to me, I guess, to have more of a "weekend" type of schedule.

That would be freakin' hilarious if the Big South changed the schedules to accommodate Hall Meeting...

The schedule was actually mostly Saturday/Monday with some Tuesdays and Wednesdays thrown in.

For personal reasons, I love the new setup. It's similar to what the Big Sky and Pac-10 does. There will still be the occasional Tuesday game thrown in, but the Thursday-Saturday will be the norm.

yeah it is pretty sweet. ACC and Big East tend to play on Mondays and Tuesdays so it'll be nice to be able to watch all of those games and attend LU games.

For most trips, leave on a Wednesday (morning or afternoon depends on distance), practice is away gym that night, play Thursday, travel and practice Friday, play Saturday (afternoon?) And return home in time for church.

Seems like possibly 3 days of missed classes = too much.

With a Saturday/Monday swing, players only miss M/F classes. So, players can schedule classes primarily on Tue/Thur, and miss a LOT less class.

All this to say I'm not a fan of the Thur/Sat swing.

This is very true... I cant remember how many times last year (mainly on Tuesdays) we were screaming and complaining about how bad the officiating was because of who else was playing that night and we use ACC refs a lot and there were a lot of games so we got shafted with bad refs. To me this is the most exciting aspect of it.

I agree but I think what needs to be seen is how much would you rather have attendance over participation. Most teams would leave monday early and practice that night on the road or for the closer games leave very early tuesday and shoot around. After the game heading back to be back for class on wed, but due to the weather during basketball season and travel times not getting back until very late. So MOST of the players will be in class but worthless because of how tired they are. Im not taking shots, Im just saying most people are when going on 2 hours of sleep. So they were possibly missing class monday, def missing class tuesday and in class but might as well not be in class on wed.

Tues/sat- Missing 1 maybe 2 days of classes and worthless wed

Thurs/Sat- Missing Maybe Wed and Def thurs and wither missing class friday or worthless friday.

I think its Pretty much the same thing. Not trying to argue, Im just saying. On top of that, I would say the only thing I dont like is the restriction of preparation for all the teams. Tues/Sat gives you 3 days to prepare for both teams that week , and Thurs/Sat gives you 4 days where a team could prepare for both, but you usually want to get 1 team behind you before going after another mentally and it really only gives you friday to prepare, if that. I can agree that as far as class schedule goes Sat/Monday would be the best, but from a preparation stand point it still kind of sucks and playing monday games also puts us in a race for good officials that we cant win haha. Academically I think Thurs/Sat works a little better for the players because it gives them the majority of the week to work on school work and any days they might have off practice would be Sunday and Monday to complete their school work.

Ok Im done. :D

I'm not a fan of this because of academic reasons. The Thursday night games will certainly get a much larger crowd than Monday nights, but we have to remember that our guys are supposed to be students first.

I don't know how yalls schedule is set up and I'm only speaking from the UNCA experience, so here it goes...

We rarely had Friday classes, If anything, it was just one class in the morning. Leave Friday afternoon for the Saturday game. Miss Monday classes. Drive back after the game on Monday night. Get a little sleep and go to class on Tuesday morning.

You also have to have one day completely off for NCAA purposes. Under the old set up, it was almost always Tuesday for us. Which gives us a full day of classes and also a day where we can meet with professors, tutors, etc. and get caught up on what we missed. Under the Thur-Sat set up, Sunday will now most likely be new day off for the teams. You will want to practice Mon-Wed to get ready for your next Thursday night game. Might be stereotyping, but I'm thinking you are going to be a lot more likely to just hang out and kick it on Sunday and not study when you don't really even have to go on campus. Also a lot less likely to be able to meet with professors, tutors, and study groups on the weekend.

Depending on the trip, we are now going to be probably missing Wed afternoon classes, all of Thursday classes, and Friday morning classes. As opposed to just classes on Monday.

Tests at UNCA also always seemed to be later in the week, which will create more issues as far as making them up.

We can make day trips out of the Winthrop, Gardner Webb, Presbyterian and High Point games... so admittedly the new change won't affect us as much as it does other teams in the conference. We might have the best location in the conference. Not insanely far away from anywhere.

Not entirely. The ACC plays most of its week night games on Wednesday. IIRC, its the Big 12 that plays on Tuesdays.

ESPN shows Big East Mondays, Big 12 Tuesdays, & ACC Wednesdays.

While I don't know the exact milage, I'm thinking Asheville is probably pretty close to the same distance from Charleston and Conway as Lynchburg is, just traveling more West-East while we are more North-South. I believe Radford to Charleston is probably the longest trip in BSC (not counting football trips to Stony Brook).

We are 4-5 hrs away from Liberty, VMI, Coastal and Charleston. 2 hours from High Point and Presby. 1 hr from Gardner Webb. 2.5 away from Winthrop and 3 away from Radford. We might make the Radford trip in one day now as well with that new highway if we aren't already up there to play you guys or VMI.

Tuesday is our Quiz Bowl practice night, and Kyle is a good friend of mine, so I'm glad he changed it so I can go to the games now.

It takes you 1 1/2 hours to drive from G-W to Winthrop? What are you, 70?

I've never made the trip from Asheville to Gardner Webb. I was just guesstimating. I guess it probably is closer to an hour and a half? And Boiling Springs to Rock Hill is at least a solid hour unless there is someway to get there that doesn't include 85 and 77 that i don't know about.

Winthrop to G-Dub is about 45 mins to an hour. And Alum, you can take some back highways and cut out 77 entirely and most of 85.

90 minutes from UNCA down to Boiling Springs....like realist said, 45 to 60 from G-W to Winthrop....you run 150 east out of Boiling Springs, turn south on highway 18 for around 8 miles, fork onto state road 5 just north of Gaffney and ride state road 5 into Rock Hill....simple two lane roads and no interstates.
