I don't believe for a second that you're this ignorant.

Yet the word I referenced was automatically changed without moderator action, but the words that guy posted went unaltered. That is what I don't get - why are "tame" cuss words altered automatically, but such sexually vulgar words (and would be considered down right offensive to some) are left unaltered? I don't really care about how long it took it to be removed since the mods full-time job isn't to regulate this board, I just don't understand why one vulgar word is altered automatically by the software as soon as I press submit, but so many very sexually vulgar and potentially offensive words were allowed by the software.olldflame wrote:I dont think he was being egocentric, more just wondering how is that wording allowed compared to what other words arentflamesbball84 wrote:so i cant say "tame" cuss words (dang - you know what it's really supposed to say - for example) in a post, but all this even more vulgar terminology is allowed in the subject line? i don't get it.Are you really that egocentric? flamesbball84 wrote:That is what I don't get - why are "tame" cuss words altered automatically, but such sexually vulgar words (and would be considered down right offensive to some) are left unaltered?Because the software doesn't know every word that we on this board may consider offensive. There are some default words in there that take care of most of the things that would be said on this board, but the built-in dictionary doesn't cover the extremes.
flamesbball84 wrote:It's not that it's not reasonable. It's just that it seems silly. They're not "allowed". I'm working on other fixes so that hopefully it won't be necessary for someone to sit and correct that.

New users must now go through a probationary period after they sign up. Admins/Moderators will have to approve posts from these users and even then they won't be able to do much besides post and reply. (No BBcode, no PM's, etc.) Once a user has proven they're legit, they're moved out of the newbie jail and into the full-privilege registered users group.
More work, but better than being spammed. Actually, I kind of like newbies having to participate to get in. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
