Who else can't wait until August 2007?

Since we have so much time, how about we discuss the team next year. Goals, achievements, take a look at the roster, and how we think both sides of the ball should be. Some others can help fill in on info on the freshman and other positions where guys didn't play much since I am not very familiar with them.

First, offensively:

QB: Brock Smith, Jr.
Zach Terrell, Jr.

OL Stephen Sene, Jarrett Winfrey

We should be much improved offensively. With Brock another year more experienced, QB should be no problem. We all know how good Rashad and Zach are in the backfield. Our WRs showed some improvement towards the end of the year, probably still the weakness on offense. Probably will be some r-Fr. that step in here, and maybe even true freshman even though I know Coach doesn't like playing them. Our OL will need some others to step up and give us some much needed depth.

Defensively:

Our defense has the chance to be dominant on this level, with the addition of Vince Redd, and some added depth.

Special Teams was our weakness last year. We must get a kicker we can trust to make a fg up to at least 40 yards. I know coach will make this a priority, and we will be much improved next season. Our returners have shown that they can get the job done, and change the game on one play.

Goals: 7-4 or 8-3 (depending on schedule), Conference Champions

nice JC. i think a conference championship is certainly within reach, and i think we can finish better than 7 or 8 wins. i know it is early, but if redd stays eligible, we could have a very dominant defense. i will have to look at the depth chart , but this is a good thread....i love football!!!!

oh, you must've edited it, i looked on the website and saw he is a redshirt junior, so he does have one year left...but you changed it anyways, so it doesn't matter...next year could be something special...that is for sure

Don't forget Britt Stone on the OL.
Also, our WRs are most certainly not the weakest part of our offense. I'd put our WRs up against anyone we played this year, including Wake. The improvement we saw toward the end of the year had less to do with their improvement and more to do with Brock's improved ability to get the ball to them. We really didn't start gelling as an offense until the Coastal game and we've still got some significant strides to make.

Stevie does come back.

I can't believe you left out Manny under losses. Right now, losing his leadership on and off the field is the biggest hole in our team and we're going to have to find someone to fill it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Vince Redd is a freak and I can't wait to see him on the field.

As far as goals for next year, I won't speak to numbers of wins and losses but, I can tell you that the bar is already set pretty high for '07.

I think we can do better than 7 or 8 wins as well, but I'm not sure of the schedule. W&M at their place will be tough, and Toledo. That could be 2 losses there, but we shall wait and see.

Champ Dukenson is back after sitting out a year due to eligbility problems.

Brandon Duke will be back at LB, assuming his hand is healed.

Can anyone tell me more about the right guard from UVA who has graduated yet has a remaining year of eligibility and is rumored to be coming?

i have not heard this, but the only OL that was a senior is gordie sammis, 6'4 289 lbs. from new jersey. everyone else is sophs or juniors.

You can be a senior academically and only be a junior as far as eligibility.

he played a a true freshman, so maybe he does not fit into the plan for the hoos next year. he was a highly touted prospect before he came to UVA. here is his bio:

I can't wait 'til the Spring game to see whats going on w/ the program. I may even beg MrsPA to let me come down for that one!

We will definitely need the LBs to step up- the loss of Manny cannot be understated. Esp in nickel and dime packages, though the DB's played well- we need some big guys with quickness as well. Preferrably someone that likes inflicting bodily harm upon opposing RBs, TEs and Wideouts.

On offense- our WRs were starting to really come into their own toward the end of the year- more success as Brock started to gel, but another legitimate deep threat would be great.

Be great to have a TE that:

• A. is a threat to catch the ball, incl RAC yardage
  B. doesn't mind blocking, since we seemed to use ours mainly for that this yr
  C. can take the burden off Zach as a dump-off reciever

You also heard Vic Hall was coming over here and all of that. I won't believe anything until they are enrolled in the classes, or someone who I trust 100% on the issue (namely HMO and Libertine and Lang) chime in. Libertine probably can't say anything though. It's nothing against you Manger, I just need a little bit of track record on this one.

I think a full healthy season of Chris Luck will solve our TE problems. He's not going pro by any means but he's as solid as they come in the Big South.

What? Are you serious? You're going to say, "I told you so" because you said we'll get a guy or two from UVA. It's entirely possible, but you can't claim "I told you so" rights until you mention names.

I just hate how people have to boost their message board ego by having these sources and all of these things they hear, then when someone doesn't believe them they say things like, "Oh you'll see I'm right, and then I'll say I told ya so." If I threw out sweeping generalizations then I could be right too.
