Manny does deserve to be in it. The only jersey we've ever retired is the 71 for Jerry.

I would say that we need to put a 51 up there for Manny. It might not be "retired" but at least to be honored.

Homecoming next year would be a great time to do it.

Good idea, we need to build some traditions. Would like to copy Aururn's chicken hawk gig, but replace it with an eagle. Probably not possible, but we need a Clemson Rock or something..

I still like my idea of a flme burning 24/7 somewhere in The Bill.

How about bowing three times to a Flaming LU on the side of a mountain?

ALMOST anything is better than nothing. We coud erect a statue of Jerry and the players could go by and rub his belly.

If we were to start up a ring of honor, who else should be in it besides Manny? (First person to say Gado gets slapped in the face by Medic) I haven't been here long enough to know the great players of the past.

I know you whipper snappers are begging for a history lesson. But I'll defer to H-burg, flameshaw and some of the other football historians.

Suffice it to say we need to have a Rock Royer tribute of some kind at the stadium as has been discussed many time sbefore on the old Firehouse and this board as well. I see no need to retire any numbers. But certain jersey numbers could be considered honor numbers that have to be earned on the field to be eligible.

Like I said, I don't know the history of LU football so I don't know who else would deserve it. Manny Rojas deserves it just as much as anyone. That kid is the ultimate leader and the face of LU football right now.

Eric Green should get consideration as a first round draft pick. Dwayne Carswell has scored a TD in the SB. I believe Wayne Haddix became a Pro Bowl player and I definitely think Rock Royer should be the first to be enshrined. Many things have to be considered ie. do we draw the line at what was accomplished at LU only, or are other things looked at such as NFL career, character issues, etc. It is late, but I am sure there are many others who should be considered.

Personally I think these 3 things should be considered:

1) Play on the field at LU
2) Character
3) Impact on the school while a student

I agree with Flameshaw's choices. I might suggest Kelvin Edwards & Mickey Paige from the transition years.

I think those that went pro should be considered. Gado, Green, Edwards, etc.

Gado didn't do anything at LU though. It'd be like UNC honoring Willie Parker.

I love that he's in the pros. I love his testimony. But a Liberty Ring of Honor shouldn't have a 3rd string running back in it. Was he more talented than 3rd string? Obviously. However, it is what it is.

I didn't say he should be up there, I was just making the point that the fact that anyone went pro should be considered, it's not like the NFL, NBA, MLB is bursting with former Liberty players.

I agree they should be recognized, but I feel a Liberty Football Ring of Honor should be reserved for what people did on the field in a Liberty jersey.

An eternal flame would be nice, a cool symbol too.

I know sparky's outfit is new and all, but couldn't we make him a little more...eh, scary? (Take the body of sparty the spartan and put feathers on it.)

Some kind of eagle flying around the stadium would also be cool (Auburn)

I think we need flame throwers when they come out of the tunnel as well.

Also, maybe like a bell...call it the Liberty bell(although there's already one on campus) or the Fire Bell and ring it like every hour leading up to the game from 24 hours out. Put it in an nice tower or something and name it after LaHaye, or Williams, or Vines, or something. It could be part of the renovation to the Bill, use same brickage from the FOC so it's uniform.

Also, most universities have student groups that coordinate cheers, shoot cannons after scores, and do other spirit related things...i think it would be incredible to take like 15-20 of your most crazy students and put them in the end zone with some sort of celebratory device for touchdowns. They could also lead the cross-stadium L-U cheer which could become deadly if we get 10,000 doing it.

Just some ideas.

in a perfect world, yes.

But we'd only be missing out on a great opportunity to promote LU FB- as shallow as that sounds.

Easy equation here: the man (Gado) played here + he's now in the pros = he goes in our HOF

done.

but yeah, we need something. the Rock Royer thing has been discussed- I mentioned it to Bob Goode a few years back and he stated the admin had heard a lot of positive things in support of that idea. In fact, we DO have a "rock" type of memorial AT the Bill now, right out by the main gate. Its for the Williams family, I believe- but could feasably be made part of a bigger "circle of honor", etc.

I just put character because I didn't want to open that bag. Thanks.

it should be what they have done on the field, but since this is liberty, you have to look at character. if it was just on the field, im looking at these guys:

eric green
wayne haddix
kelvin edwards
james mc knight
robby justino
paul johnson

there are many more, but induct two or three a year. and royer's rock is a must. hey flameshaw, maybe you could get the football alumni, to do a fund raiser and put that rock right outside to football center.

Here's my thought...we all know that within the next few years the Bill is going to have to undergo a major renovation for a few reasons; 1. to attract recruits, 2. to increase seating (as university grows, student body grows, thus alumni grow, and support grows), and 3. to get to the next level which is obviously the goal.

I think a team should be put together to begin the brainstorming process surrounding this massive project. The team should include no more than 15 people, and should be chaired by AD Barber. I'd break it down like such: 2 members of coaching staff (Rocco, Someone else), 2 non-football alumni, 2 football alumni, 4 major business partners, 2 AD staff, and 2 students. Thus you get all perspectives when planning to take the next step.

I'd like to see the main entrance turned into a nice pavillion (call it Memorial Plaza or something like that) with several monument/statue/traditional things in it. A place where kids can go before the game to have fun (drumline out front before the game, Sparky, cheerleaders, etc) and a place that really wow's people when they come in.

Well, to begin this process, we're going to need more donors. I'm sure Falwell has Mr. Williams on speed dial.
