Rocco said Mike didn't practice all week. That makes his play tonight look a lot more impressive.

+1. The offensive line looked off to me -- we didn't control the line the way we needed to. Our defense showed up, though they did give up some pretty big runs.

Defense kept us in the game. We had chances in the fourth. Offensively we just couldn't sustain any drives.

Can't put this on the D. JMU is very beatable. LU just didn't get it done.

Let's turn this thing around next week. BigSouth play is coming soon - that's when the real season starts.

-Defense looked great.
-There were a ton of "what if" moments out there: Dropped pass in the endzone, 4th and 1 call which led to their only TD, and the blocked FG.
-Summers is going to go nuts vs. the Big South.
-I liked how Rocco didn't sound happy about keeping it close.

If this team comes to play in the Big South we will be looking pretty good, although SB played UMass pretty close.

There shouldn't be any jump off the bridge comments here. D played very well. Bring on the Big South.

Don't let any of these Dukies blame it on their lack of offense either, as I already read them doing. That's complete BS. Our defense was right there in their face every single play.

Very well summed up grad! You beat me to the punch and the Offense just did not show up and they haven't from the beginning of the season. What the heck is going on with this offense. They need other QB's more touches and let Mike be a wideout and I like him there better because he performs better at that position. We need a more productive QB and JMU was ready for Mike and any scrambling he was going to do. Those are just my concerns. Its just me. :dontgetit

Proud o the way the defense played tonight. And against a very salty JMU defense (ask the Hokies), the offense has nothing to be embarrassed about either. Still this was frustratingly close to within our grasp.

Here are some stats:

Mike Brown
21-of-32 for 203 yards with 1 INT
11 carries for 26 Yards

Korrey Davis
13 Carries for 25 Yards

Chris Summers
8 Catches for 66 Yards

I know Sly that you said within our grasp and I am getting pretty frustrated with that and we need to take a commanding lead but we still played well. Now lets take care of Business in the Big South and lets see what we can do in the post season. We're definitely playing in the first round and we will not be seeded.

I don't see any problems with Mike as QB. He's accurate, makes good decisions, and his legs gives the defense something else to think about, even if they do keep his scrambling in check. I'm not really a huge fan of how often we're calling plays for him to run it or really our run game in general.

We got beat by a better team. We lost because of the little things that make good teams into great, national title contending teams. Converting key plays (3rd and 4th down), keeping contain against the other team's athletes, being consistent in your coverage, and dominating the line of scrimmage.

Definite props to Mike for his effort, I think it could have been a different game if he was able to do everything he normally does. But our line isn't good enough to open things up for our running backs at this point. So we need to be creative here, and not just bash into the same wall.

We did show a lot of guts and heart, and the defense, while it was the reason we lost on the scoreboard, really did all it could. A couple broken plays were the difference, but the offense should be able to overcome that (and it didn't). The defense eventually just got beaten up and couldn't stop them the last drive, and that was it.

Let's build from this, learn how to be more than just a good team, and let's earn a playoff spot!

My prediction: All of the JMU people will say that they played like crap and we aren't that good. They will ramble on and on about how they beat VT and they were just getting ready for the Delaware game next week, so they didn't try anything offensively that would tip their hand to the rest of the CAA. We also aren't good enough to make the playoffs and would be a bottom 3 team in the CAA.

Now I'm going to head over to CAAZone to see if I am right.

I don't think Mike is as good as Tyler in terms of being a pure passer, but there's no doubt that Mike is the guy to run this offense right now. Tonight proved that. He was very accurate, his only "mistake" was the INT and that was a scramble (poor blocking) that he tried to force (because he had to).

I don't think there's anything to regret in terms of Mike's performance. I wish he was able to run more, actually, so I disagree there. Other than that, I think Mike did really well.

You're right but we all know LU had chances and could have won this game. Also, any given Saturday anything can happen.

Sorry to see UMass sneak by SBU.

BigSouth is getting better.

Not to mention JMU threw the kitchen sink to win in Blacksburg. Would playing vanilla erase game tapes from 3 weeks ago? This game DID mean something to JMU. No way they'd risk losing it.

I'm back from the dark side. I probably should have added "the sun will rise tomorrow" into my list of predictions, because pretty much everything I said was on there.

Can we kill this notion before it goes anywhere?

In fact, I'll let someone else do it for me.

I just let homer posters get to me too easily. It was a conservatively called game because that's how you win 10-3 games.
