It has something to do with Thanksgiving being late, I think?
I just know that every few years, you are allowed 12 games. Every other year 11 is the max.
Regardless, we could always fill in our current open date with a new game, and leave the old Iona date (which is in between a couple of pretty important games, just like the open date, so it's really 6 one way, half dozen the other) open.
So anyone with an opening the first 2 weekends in October is fair game. That includes anyone who had planned on playing Iona on the 10th of October, which could be North Dakota or Columbia (Both would be good games for us. I can't find dates on when they were supposed to play these teams, I just know they are scheduled opponents.) I know they play ODU next year, but that wouldn't fit into our Schedule... ODU has games planned for the 3rd and 10th (plus they wouldn't count as a D-I win, anyways, so we don't exactly want that.)
I wouldn't be opposed to taking a trip to a lower FBS school, tho. I think at this point, we need to prove to people we aren't afraid to go thru a tough schedule, and if we come out of it with a few upsets, even better. The main beef against us is that we don't play tough teams...
A schedule that includes...
Lafayette
JMU
Coastal
WVU
and another low level FBS
would be pretty sweet if you ask me. I don't think anyone could criticize us for that, and I really think we can hang with a schedule like that. Wins in 2 or 3 of those games and we will gain a lot of respect.
