You would know wouldn't you?

(The sad thing is, we're cracking jokes on each other on here and AIM at the same time. We have no lives)

i must say, i would pay money to see SJ dressed like the medic! anyway i found this little bit of info on st. pauls.

3. ST. PAUL’S
Willard Bailey, the CIAA’s all-time winningest coach, appeared to lay the foundation for another winner last year. He guided the Tigers to a 4-6 record in the program’s first season back in the conference after playing on the club level. Of those six losses, one was in overtime and two more were by three points or less.

let me be first to say i think we will win, and do so handily, and im sure the boys will be ready, but this st. pauls team looks to be impoving at a steady pace, and as the scribe said we struggled agianst a D2 in game one last year too. let's tread cautiously, but continue to stay very, very optimistic!

Ok, I went back in the thread and looked and seen St. Paul's is from Virginia. I have never heard of the School ever! I am impressed that we play some of the BIG South programs and Wake Forest , Western Carolina and Towson, along with College of William and Mary but these are really tough games and I don't see us winning them. I thought Savannah State had a good team but SJ says I don't know what I am talking about so I will say no more. I think I was thinking about Georgia Southern. Just be patient and be supportive.

D2 program from Lawrenceville, VA. It's a CIAA school about half an hour SW of Richmond. They dropped their program some time ago and revived it only last year. They have a high number of juco transfers and finished w/ a 4-6 record in their first year of play, good for 4th in their division. They are patterning their program after Shaw University, another CIAA school, that revived their program in 2002(?) and won the conference in their 2nd season.

They want something revived? Well, they are in for a Holy Ghost Revival up here on the Mountain. They may need PAMedic and any other medical specialist to revive them after the Flames are through with them.

I made a trip over to Lawrenceville today to meet with Coach Bailey and a couple of players. Look for a story about St. Paul's in next Wednesday's fishwrap.

If (I refuse to say when) we're up in the 4th quarter with two minutes to play, I say we all start a "Can-cel-class-es" chant.

I look forward to the writeup, Chris. Are you including what's going on with their administration and its role in their program's future? If not, can you share anything here that wouldn't steal any thunder from your story?

Honestly, the administration will have very little to do with the story. I'm just not going to have enough space to deal with that. I know they were worried that the new president wasn't going to be football friendly, but that worry seems to be unfounded.

Another tidbit ---

The Tigers will be participating in their second season of CIAA football after playing on the club level for three years. 2005 was a rude awakening for coach Willard Bailey's team, as it finished a disappointing 4-6 after going 7-0 the season before.

Now that SPC has a year of CIAA of its belt, expect Bailey, the winningest football coach in CIAA history, to have his team ready with 18 of 22 starters returning.

Last season, defense was the key for SPC, which finished the season No. 15 in Division II. The unit will be sparked by all-CIAA DB Greg Toler, who led the conference in interceptions (6). The defensive line should also be solid behind veteran bookend defensive ends Corey Boston and Gregory Green.

Offense is where SPC will be the most suspect as Bailey will have to break in a new signal-caller. QB Walter Virgil, who split time with Demetrius Brown, is ineligible.

St. Paul's travels to Liberty on Aug. 31.

Unfortunately, I won't be at teh game, I have to close on a house, but you guys should remember that 4 of the 6 losses from last year were by 10 points or less.

Have you ever faced a 6'4 240 pound running back who was the second leading rusher for a Big East team last year? Didn't think so.
