Is anyone else puzzled why our band it going. I know they have improved A LOT over the last three years but its kinda like go to a symphony concert and somehow one of the violinist's cousins got to play event though they just started learning the basics.

Why wouldn't they go? Yeah, JMU is better, but they're our band. They're there for us. One of the best ways to get better in band is to watch how others do it that are better than you. Have them go, support us, play the best they can, and hopefully be better for it.

Jon is right in his explanation although part of it (I would think) is as a courtesy between the band directors since JMU came and performed here last season

Hey Beej, quick question. Do those in the band consider themselves athletes?

:dontgetit Oh dear. Band does not = athlete. Playing an instrument and walking around is not athletic. Does it take talent? Absolutely. But there two different kinds of talent. Most football players probably can't do what most band members do, and most (probably all) band members can't do what football players do especially at the collegiate level.

Hey...when I was in the band we'd kick fieldgoals after practice. I could hit it from 30 yards pretty good wearing a rollerblade boot with the wheels taken off.

No, I don't think band members are athletes. However, upper level drum and bugle corps people I would consider athletes...you look at the crazy drill of the Cadets or Cavaliers, and that's like running in step while playing. It's insane - and I paid something like $13 to watch championships this year at Movies 10, and it was sold out.

Two other things as far as he band. The message has been received about wearing red. They're having a band alumni day on October 9th, where alumni can come back and play with the band...I've I've gotten about 4 emails that say, MAKE SURE YOU WEAR RED. So I think the band has got that message...and btw if you're a band alumni, you can still sign up for homecomming, just join the band alumni page on facebook, and you'll get the info. They're having a dinner, and they're giving everone that attends a DVD with band performances through the years...they're trying to have every year since it started on there - which is pretty cool.

Lastly, I liked the sing-along songs with LEAN ON ME and things like that...but I think they should have someone on a microphone leading it, because the people in the crowd weren't sure exactly when to start and stop.

Finally, the best reason to bring the band is to play Fan the Flames when we score, so we can sing along...even though my prediction is bad...nothing would make me happier that to be singing that song over and over again on Saturday night.

I was recently at a church that had their bells connected to a keyboard that you could play hymns on...and I was so tempted to turn it on and play the flames fight song...ringing through the air to the sound of loud church bells...maybe I could do that Sunday afternoon if the flames win and post it.

Sorry for getting off topic...band stuff excites me :)

KBM - Agreed 100%

Reason I asked Beej is cause at "See you at the pole" tonight, they asked all the athletes to raise their hands so that they could be prayed for. Some dude in the band threw his hand up. It made me cringe. So then it made me wonder if band members actually considered themselves athletes. Thanks for not being "that guy" Beej.

Wouldn't this downplay our win?
yelling overrated after you have defeated a highly ranked opponent in general is a fascinating paradox

...but not one I'm going to care about anytime soon

I'd personally leave yelling "We are who they thought we were! And they let us off the hook!"

Yeah I thought that too after I thought about it. But then I thought "at the moment" that's not what they'll think of. All they'd see is some Liberty guy yellin about how there team sucks and that'll make em mad. Do I really think they suck? Nope. But it'd get them heated haha.

Great dream. Now no more sleep the rest of the week so you can't have any differing dreams or nightmares.
