Liberty doesn't go to the play-offs - because of a stupid conference rule (which was changed this year) - not the Coach.
You don't need tiebreakers when you handle your business and beat the teams you should beat.

Again agree with TTL. Great post! We should be held accountable to higher standards than what the big south offers due to the obvious. We have been stuck on that "plateau" now for the last 4 years and now it is time to take that next step. Our progress the last 4 years has been minimal to say the least. This year it is "Do or Die"

As a resident Debbie Downer Im not surprised that you would Steve...I think we all want to see things get better, myself included, and to see the Flames finally burn brightest when it matters most and to have a season in conference like we did in 2007 and 2008 where we mow everyone down like a runaway Sherman tank with an itchy trigger finger at the gunner position, but I also think that we arent Michigan or Ohio State or Florida or LSU or Appalachian State or Eastern Washington or Delaware. I want us to get over the hump this year too but I dont think that this is a "do or die" season and maybe you shouldnt be turning the pot to HI just yet my friend

No, we need a New Era of Christian Commitment, duh. We could use some balls...and I don't mean footballs.

I am curious- why are football players living off campus? It seems almost counterproductive to their focus, and for some, very counterproductive for their personal lives.

Hmmm.... seems like they do. Seems like some are.

I think some of you are forgetting a major hurdle that our coaches have had to take on in the recruiting process: Liberty is a Christian school with a different lifestyle than secular schools. That is a major deterrent for some players coming in (whether you want to believe it or not, not everyone wants to better themselves when they are 18-19 years old). They have worked their butts off to get players in here that can help us win games, and they have done just that. It takes more than 3 years to turn a TERRIBLE program into a JMU or William and Mary. Those teams have a tradition of winning that wasn't built in 5-6 years. Just take a snapshot of where we were before Rocco, and where we are now. Period. They will win out this year, and you all will feel so silly for starting this ridiculous post. You should be ashamed.

Everyone recognizes the inherrant obstacles to recruiting to Liberty. Those coaches who have turned that negative into a positive in their recruitng have been the most successful on the campus. Not easy. I would argue its most difficult in football. But it's still a weak argument, because almost as many out there are willing to give LU a second look because of its mission, as opposed to those who won't consider it on this basis.

Agreed. But ability to win games should not be the only criteria for a student-athlete at Liberty University. I could be wrong or in the minority, but I believe that's what many on this board mean when they talk about the long-term vision for athletics and the University a sa whole when it was first a glint in Dr. Falwell's eye.

Exclamation point! I couldn't agree more with you. Normal or even rabid sports fans are the least rational sect of society. Liberty's fans are no different - maybe even an eke worse because of the perceived "moral grounding" for their fanhood. :)

A bold statement. Of course I'm rooting for it. But, I'm not guaranteeing it. Lehigh is GOOD. And, it's been awhile since we went through the BSC unscathed.

Randy Danton would have never let this happen. Maybe he told players they could have long hair but he never would tell them that posession of cocaine is no big deal.

Right, I shouldn't have led off with that argument. It wasn't meant to be an end-all-be-all statement of why Rocco should stay. But it is one big example of why he is "the guy" in my opinion.

Good point....but lets be real. Winning is the most important thing when you're talking about building a program at a fast pace.

Glad we agree. Having played at LU, for DR, I can honestly say without hesitation that our fan base is outstanding, compared to ANY FCS school.

I know you aren't supposed to choose a college based on the coach, but ROCCO was a major reason my son chose LU. I hope he stays till my son is out of the program atleast. He has been nothing but positive for my son on and off the field.

Coaches are the #1 reason an athlete chooses a school. It's the reason I chose to go to the school I went to. I don't ever recall hearing an athlete say ' I hate this coach but love the school."

Hey buddy- we never had a coach named Randy Danton.

Even disagreeing with decision doesn't make me want a new coach. Whether I agree or nor doesn't really matter.

not always, you hear kids all the time saying i wanted to go here since i was a little kid. in most cases the school he always wanted to go to doesn't have the same coach as they did when he was in peewee football.

We are in an area of unprecedented financial means and it has nothing to do with JB or DR. It has everything to do with "distance learning". JLFJR has rolled out the $$$ to athletics obviously. We have tremendous facilities. unmatched promotional/television funding and budgets which our ticket sales, athletic giving and scholarship funding aren't barely a % of.

It appears that we are on a move of winning trumps mission when in former days it was stay on the mission and find a way to win. I believe if some of our previous coaches in major sports had the current resources it would be a stronger department. Sad to see that talent means more than a felony drug bust.

Bump.

How often can we be our own worst enemy and be okay with it?

Let me guess, it's all the players' faults. Or the plane trip was too bumpy.

The pilot from this flight also flew us up to Stony Brook a couple years ago.
